I decided to sell my Yamaha FJR1300 a few weeks back.  I really love the bike but I am getting too old and stiff to ride bikes with a more "sporty" riding position.  I wasn't getting much interest on CL until last weekend when a fellow down the road came by.  He had a buyer for his Valk and was seriously willing to buy my FJR.  The buyer bailed out on the Valk so he asked if I would be interested in a trade plus cash.  So I got his '97 Tourer with 11K plus $2300.

Now I have two Tourers in the garage so one must go.  I have a '98 Tourer with only 18K on the clock but have decided to sell it and keep the '97.  The '98 has Cobras on it which are a little too rowdy for my taste.

This is the '97 Tourer:

Both are great looking bikes, but I believe I'd take the Chrome tranny covers of the 98 and put them on the 97 and keep that one. Besides, I'm partial to Black and Chrome. cooldude

That 97 doesn't look like a Tourer.
Have you verified it by the VIN #?

Go to this link with your VIN # and see what it says.

curious as to what makes it not look like a Tourer?
It does have some add-ons, nice seat, highway pegs, windshield pouch, and the luggage rack.
Looks like my 98 Tourer for sure, except I have IS pipes and rear pegs instead of boards.

good point
plus, the word "Tourer" doesn't seem to be on the windshield chrome cross piece.
Maybe ol' RJ is on to something!

I essentially changed my '97 standard into a tourer, nothing wrong with that .  I sold it as a standard with tourer bags and windshield.  Essentially tourer and standard so equipped, would be the same maybe except for resale value.

Possibly another way to tell is the standard has a set of reflectors on the arch of the rear fenders.  The tourer bags have their own set.

Or maybe they just too the BR off and the other stuff is aftermarket?

Besides, who cares? It is (for all practical purposes) a tourer now whether it left the factory that way or not.

The 97 is really nice looking. Never cared for the turquoise color so in my opinion going to the solid black is a big upgrade. Not wild about that seat though.

Good deal on the swap.  I like the black better than turquoise too.

I'd scavenge the tranny covers, chrome side covers (assuming you have the originals; and if not, just swap the black for chrome), and sissy with rest from the turquoise before sale.  I'd delete the black's back seat and luggage rack for daily use (but keep the rack for trips).  If I had a regular passenger, I'd get a matching black/silver back seat and sissy pad from Ultimate (assuming you like the Bigboy that is on it).  And I'd swap any tidbit that was in better shape on the turquoise than the black.

Course that's what I'd do.  YMMV

That '98' has the tallest windshield I have ever seen, no looking over that unless your standing up on the pegs. Or is it the angle of the bike that makes it look soooooo tall?

Looks like a Black 97 Tourer to me, the Vin # will tell for sure. 97's didn't have the "Tourer" logo on the Windshield Trim, that started in 98, so that is correct.
Looks like it was setup as a solo, thats why the backrest supports are missing.
I'd keep the black one and sell the Jade. my .02

I will check the vin on the '97 when I get home.  The backrest is missing because it had a Corbin dual seat with dual backrests (now in the classifieds).

BTW, the serial number on the '97 is 000095 (hopefully I got the number zeros right).  Supposedly the first one to arrive at a large dealership in Denver.

The windshield on the '98 is a tall Memphis Fats; the factory 'shield was missing when I got the bike.  Definitely keeps the bugs out of one's teeth.   Grin  And it is the infamous CL scam bike, but whoever buys it will actually get a bike.  2funny

I am in the process of moving goodies between bikes and need a passenger seat for the '98 if any of you have one for a good price.  The seat is a Big Boy and I am seriously considering a King.

I'd get a bigger garage....say, I DO have a bigger garage!!

I like them both...it would be hard for me to get rid of either one.

Oh, that's the "scam bike"....world famous, ought to be worth a small fortune! At least the pictures were, to the scammer...

Keep the black one, it looks great and has lots of goodies already mounted.  Will the jade bike sell for the CL price.  I'd like to be first in line.  Evil
