Finding little things bang up after my accident April 13. I noticed the chrome end cap on my throttle grip is loose. The plastic "Ring" underneath the cap is cracked off.
Now the question having never changed out MC grips, will I need a new throttle assembly or just new grips?
Also my Leather Lyke bags got a bit banged up, I have a set of Val Leather Bags, in the garbage I know i need the racks to mount them, but do I need to change the frame pieces?

Thank you!

If you are talking about the OEM grip, it covers a white plastic tube with a threaded male stub on the end.  The chrome end cap screws onto the stud.  If the white plastic tube (or stud) is broken or cracked, you will need to replace it (and it can be purchased only with a new grip).  If the white plastic tube and stud are not broken, and the chrome plastic end cap is broken, you can simply replace the end cap.  Do not know about purchasing one, but I'm sure many members would send you one for not much more than the cost of shipping.  I'm sure I have an extra in the garage.  Depending on the condition of the old (presumably cracked) end cap, some members JB weld the ignition key to cap for a custom look.

Can't help on the bags.

Looks like I will be buying new grips! I wanted some new ones anyway. Kuryakin makes some nice ones. I will pursue the Vendors also! Thanks!

Just replaced the left grip on my 98 T. Wearing fingerless gloves I was getting 3 black fingers from the grip. $27 from my local bike shop and my fingers are still turning black. Joking the parts guy suggested it was me and not the grips. I told him it's only my left hand that's messed up the right is OK.  $35 for the right grip.
The service manual has pictures of the grips and end caps.

So how do I get that right hand grip off? I unscrewed the end cap and pulled and twisted for all I was worth. What's the trick?

If your just replacing the grip blow some air up under the rubber and the sleeve (white plastic thing).  A long thing screwdriver can also be used to peel away the grip from the sleeve.

Here's a link to some pics form BigBF

If you are replacing the throttle sleeve and grip you have to dissassemble the emergency stop switch and remove the throttle cables from the sleeve.

Hope this helps.
