I downloaded SKYPE on my Dell desktop two years ago; my new (1 year old) HP laptop came with SKYPE already downloaded on it.  Both computers work great when SKYPEing relatives all over the country. We use Windows Live Mail for emails.   What I need to do is SKYPE back and forth between my desktop and laptop - video call home while away so to speak.  When I try to "add a contact" on either unit it directs me to download SKYPE again.  SKYPE doesn't seem to recognize Windows Live Mail or entering either me or my wife as single contacts.  Any ideas or tips??

TIA  !!

I gave up on Skype and downloaded the Logitech Video HD. Works great with my Logitech webcam and my daughter's laptop with a built-in camera. It works totally separate from any email, has the ability to text as well as video. And, if you want it you can expand to full screen or keep it at roughly a 6" view.

Skype has been updated several times in the last 2 years. I think that you will find that v5.3xxxxxx is the latest. Maybe it is wanting you to download the current version before you can add new contacts. You can find out what version you are running by going to Help > About Skype from the top menu.

You aren't using an automatic log in under your ID on both computers, right? Just checkin'  ???

Man, I love Skype.  I don't get to see my brothers and sisters nearly as often as I'd like and it's wonderful to see their faces when I'm talking to them (at no extra charge).

I use it to call home when I'm away on business, too.  Makes a big difference to be able to SEE the kids.  Little ones don't do well on the phone, but for video, they'll be engaged.
Anyway, it sounds like you're logging in as the same username in both places.  That won't work.  Make sure each computer is logged in with a different username.  Create a second account if necessary.  Why are you implying it's connected to email?  Your Skype username is independant of any email account, although they may ask for an email address when you sign up, but that's simply a piece of contact info for them (hard to remember, since I signed up several years ago).

I always test my connection before I leave home, that way I can see both machines at once.  I go in the next room to make the call, to prevent audio feedback, but otherwise, do it that way.
