Have not had too many chances to ride the Phat Gurl as of late, as the temps have been in the muggy 90's... Last evening, after I got home from work, my boys had a hankerin' for some chicken on the grill... Temps were still 90+, but a bit less humid than the past few days... Decided to take the Valk to the store, about 5 miles over in the next little town... Shopping all done, I pull out of the parking lot, and am sitting in the left lane, of a two lane (each way), headed west... The right lane is open, and up pulls a beautiful black n chrome HD Bagger... Guy pulls up, I look over at his beautiful machine and give him an approving nod... He kinda looks my way, with a bit of a 'I'm too important to acknowledge you' look, and just stares ahead... Left arrow turns green (we still have a red), and he kinda creeps ahead... I'm thinkin' he may wanna run me... Light turns green, and he starts off as though he was on his way to church... Ahhh poo... I'm not gonna blast someone that don't wanna run... He shifts to 2nd, and HAMMERS it!!!! OK, now he has me (surprised ), and I'm maybe 20 - 25 feet behind him... I had shifted to 2nd, at almost the same time, so I just twisted the wick, and started to fly... A bit of a 'rev limiter' stumble just before I hit 3rd, and I was able to pass him like he threw out an anchor, as I hit 4th... Needed to shut down in about a 1/4 mile, as the road had a bit of a left hand curve, but he was waaay back by then... Got to the next stop, and he stayed back... Guess he didn't know what a Valk was, or what they are capable of, but I'm always in favor of continuing education I know there will be a few that find it amazing that, once again, I found another unsuspecting HD rider (mcrider, I know yer ready to jump out of the 'Lurk' mode) to play with, but I do live in Hardly country, only 25 miles from the main Milwaukee plant. I love the smell of 'smoked' Pork in the evening... Only 5 days to 'Blast Off' for InZane Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait! Black Dog

See, if I was on my Buell I'd have smoked you the whole way and then right through that turn you slowed for. Actually I'd have had to be careful in the first hundred feet or so not to loop it but after that it's game on.

Never been a Harley fan, they are crap. Glad you put him in his rightful place. I especially don't like that they stole the red/black paint scheme on the new ultras, they look too much like my bike at a glance.

And if I was on a Suzuki Hayabusa, I would smoke your Buell on a straightaway and thru the corners. So what?
This was a story about a rider who wasn't on a Buell or a Hayabusa who apparently snubbed a fellow Valk rider and found out that his particular motorcycle was either not powerful enough or his skills were insufficient to out-accelerate Black Dog on his Valkyrie.
Not every post on the forum needs to be topped by a hypothetical comeuppance.

And if the guy on the HD bagger hadn't been an a$$hole and had just acknowledged Black Dog's greeting, this whole thread wouldn't have been written. Most of the HD friction and bashing is caused by the attitude generated by the "image factory" that is the HD Marketing Department. I get no attitude from the Harley "riders" I encounter. Now the Harley "owners" with less than 2K miles on their 4 year old bike, enough logo'd leather to make a cow, and are known by name at the boutique, that is a different story.

Steve, it is more fun to stay in 4th, and about 1/2 a length behind them. When they top out, motor on up beside them and shift into the top gear, then motor on down the road.

I suspect almost everyone has had a version of that identical scenario happen..... it has to me..... and you know what? Each time I've had the same result as you. I don't set out to race or roll-on with other riders, but if I get the 'attitude' coupled with a hot takeoff as if to blow my doors off...... the glove has been thrown down, and I am usually unable to resist (so long as there is not a bubblegum car close by). Now I do ride with a regular buddy with a highly modified 103" Road Glide, and we are about dead even under all conditions. I have little tiny stickers on my mirrors that say "Caution, Harley Davidson's often disappear quickly in mirrors." (thanks to a fellow from Canuckistan)

I was on a poker run last week - and the group tried to stay together - we did the unofficial road guard bit so I eventually ended up at the back of the pack - just in front of the sweep 2 Harley riders. then we got a car inbetween the last three bikes - got seperated from the group - finally got a long straight stretch to catch up - the Harley guys gave me the nod to catch up and I did we all took off to catch the pack and I looked in the rear view mirror and they kept getting further behind

Hmmm. . . . . brought my Valk used. . . . . it had 6200 miles on the clicker in 2001 and there’s NO rev limiter on her. Nada! Now I’m REAL curious though. I’ve said it here before; I’ve never ridden with ANY bike, with one exception, that seemed as quick or fast as mine, even with a fat guy on it. Man, I wish I was going to InZane this year! Dang! Maybe someone who actually knows something – as opposed to me – could ride it and tell me what they think?

Put it on a dyno, you'll have a good baseline. The good running stockers will turn 100 HP or thereabout, high ninetys tork. I have never seen one turn less than 92. Sky's the limit for the mod guys. Hoser

As much as I hate to admit it Im right there with you, provocation such as that is to good pass up. I like Harley's but dont want to own one, but some of the riders are just plain jerks. Like anyone who doesnt have manners I pass most off but that was good. My son bought a Harley and we were out riding and he always wanted to race. I dont race as a rule and especially not my son, well one day my son in laws Harley broke down and I had to put him on the back of my bike. Well my son started this lets race again bs. So I obliged him lets just say with both on my bike we passed my son and left him behind easily. Never heard another word about racing, wonder why?

Some of that is due to the Valk's power advantage (especially many other cruisers with few exceptions) that's not the only reason. I've owned a few bikes that made considerably more power than my Valk, but in a straight line none were easier to make go fast. My Buell and 954 all wanted to wheelie badly out of the hole. So did my bored over ZX7 (ZX9 motor) when it wasn't set up for dragracing and even then it would still lift a wheel if you were hamfisted. So all required a lot more skill to launch from a stop or low speed. The Valk you can just twist it and go fast. VERY fast. I can think of a few bikes I've ridden that could take the Valk in a straight line with an amateur (aka: not a pro drag racer) at the controls. One was a Hayabusa with a lengthened swingarm and the other was a previous generation mostly stock V-Max. The fact that it likes to rev more than most cruisers also helps.

If they stick around AFTER i dust their a$$-i usually get the-iffin i had my friends-brother in laws-sisters etc etc motorsickle. And when they find out my ride is 12 years young and coming up on 50 thou-well lets just say the looks are most generally priceless. Even more fun is telling em i have a car tire on the back and 90% or more telling me it can't work. And try to explain i'm one of many that it ain't working for. Keep havin fun dog-thats mostly what it be about anywho. RIDE SAFE.

I don't know about the Valk being all that fast. I prefer to compare appples & apples when talking contests of speed. Of all the true full size cruisers or touring bikes right off hand I can think of 2 that will eat the Valks lunch. Of course the Triumph R3 will flat out spank the Valk anytime any way. As a former R3 owner I know that first hand! The Suzuki M109R is just a whisker behind the R3 but will still take the Valk with room to spare. You don't see too many M109's set up as baggers but they can be & look great. I also think the VTX 1800 & the 1800 'Wing are the equal to the Valk but haven't seen that myself. The Valk will take pretty much anything the MoCo has to offer of equal size. The V-Rod doesn't count as it is not full size bike, kinda like a toy bike albeit with Harleys best engine! Before you guys holler about how your friends/BiLs/cousins etc. modified Harley will whup a Valk, I'm talking STOCK here. You can shine a turd enough to make it pass as a jewel you know! Even though I know my Valks limitations I would not trade it for any of the aforementioned bikes. Been there, ridden that!

The VRod absolutely counts. You just can't bring yourself to admit that a Harley will beat up on the Valk. But you can always hang your hat on the "Porsche designed engine". And you forgot the V-Max. The Max will annihilate the Valk. It might even take an RIII. But like you I could own any one of those others but don't.

IMO – I don’t know that anything will “annihilate” a Valk. . . Don’t misunderstand me. Certainly there are quicker bikes, but I’ve taken more than a few crotch rockets off the line (true!) street light to street light. Maybe it has more to do where the power band is, eh? The front end of my Valk will come up pretty quickly also, if I let it. . .
I completely agree about the Triumph Rocket III. I rode one a few times now and have been duly impressed. It’s one scary fast machine for sure and I think it would take a Valk. As a long-time Triumph fan though, I’m still not clear why they resurrected an old BSA model nameplate to put on their flagship. I don't get it? Doesn't matter. I can’t afford one anyway, no matter what they’re called. I’m so poor I can’t pay attention. . . In fact; I’m so poor if around the world tickets were 10 bucks a pop, I couldn’t get to the end of my driveway! I’m so poor that if steamboats were 5 bucks for a dozen, all I could do is run up and down the shore yelling; “what a deal!”
I’ve never ridden a Suzuki in my entire life. . . . I’ve sat on the M109 though and it seems small (to me!)
The 1800 Wing is a fast bike, especially for what it’s designed to be. As soon as I start getting my Government cheese, I am buying both a Wing & a TR III. . .
I’ve stomped all over my buddies VTX, but maybe he doesn’t have it dialed in right?

Have you ever seen a 250 lb. man riding a V-Rod or V-Max? Looks like a bear riding a tricycle. Try an all day 2 up ride on either one of those bikes & get back with us. They are what they are and full size cruiser/touring bikes they aint. Great bikes both but apples to apples dude. Oh jeez I forgot, your superior education & experience has made the final ruling.
