I'm in Inverness FL it seems to be doing ok. about half the folks around there are retired so not dependant on a job for income. there are a few businesses shuttered in this busted recovery, but over all not many.

one was a book store next to a restuarant that we eat at when I get home, it was al most a habit. I bought a few dozen books from the owner but I'm only there every 5 or 6 weeks. I was kinda sad he closed up I've talked to him abit he'd been in doing this for 35 years. I like to support the locals, I got the impression he was slightly to the left of center, didn't matter to me though.

Found while on Vacation in 2004, price was too good to turn down, so I climbed on and pointed it towards VA.

As I pulled out of the guys driveway I realized that I hadn't ridden a motorcycle in almost 14 yrs and that I had 600 mi in front of me.

Up here in Ottawa, I live in a gov't town so everyone is doing great.  Lots of construction going on and not very many people out of work.  I see signs all over the place looking for help.  Good place to live and pretty close to most things.  Great fishing to.

The business my wife worked for was sold a year ago and she still cannot find a job; mainly because of age discrimination.  Many small businesses have also gone under including a major bike dealership due to no credit.

Sad to see the fallout from the greed on Wall St. and incompetence and complicity of our regulators.

Here in West Central Louisiana things are pretty good, lota of new home construction going on, some new business, mostly in food industry.  We have Fort Polk {Camp Swampy} that provides lots of jobs and a lot of GI money into the local economy.  Also makes it a good place for military retirees.

Our city is short on money, local tax dollars drying up. We just finished separation of storm/ sewer lines per Federal mandate, cost 6 million, 14,000 population.  Meetings of Planning committee postponed  indefinitely.  New home construction stopped cold.  No new industry. Infrastructure going bad in older subdivisions. New long planned county/city  road project involving two new bridges going ahead at high costs.  Shared costs between two cities and the county.

This stupid town here and all of the suburbs are fighting over who can annex what.    Should be voluntary, but most of them are forced.    The area I live in, we are surrounded by 2 burbs, and no one wants us due to our big debt on the new sewer we put in 38 years ago, all we pay off on it is the interest, the original note is still full value, 8 million.

Ya look at a map of how they have annexed, there is little fingers going every which way.

One poor burbs has got itself land locked.   No where around it to annex cause the Mayor of a few years ago set on his fingers when they should have been getting property on their honor roll.       Too bad, cause I figure in a few years, not in my life time, they will be annexed by one or 2 of the other burbs who have the $$$$ to supply the needed services.

Here in willow springs we have a highway patrol office(still open) in the last year or so we have gotten a Cat equipment distribution warehouse(don't know fer sure how many jobs 15 or 20) our lumber industry has seen better times and the state of Missouri in their infinite wisdom(loss of tax revenue) closed the engineering office we had here. That cost 70 or 80 jobs and not real sure-not many folks were able to move. We have a caseys and a 24/7 handi mart(momma works the midnite shift at the 24/7 one) both of the handi marts seem to go thru a lot of people. Main street looks like a ghost town. 2 or 3 years ago they put up a strip mall here room for 7 or 8 tenants-just one in there-Subway-have NO idea how they stay open. Guy i go to church with was the local radio shack franchisee-he lost that about 2 months ago. Other than that-all else APPEARS well here. My auto tax is due in december-iffin it jumps up to danged high ya'll WILL hear me pitchin a b-tch right here when it do or do not happen. RIDE SAFE.

Orlando is suffering. The shut down of the space program has a lot of people looking for jobs. Every time I have an opening I get hundreds of aps from rocket propulsion, space industry, guys looking for work, and thousands of unemployed trades people.
It's not going to pick up here for a long time.

Our area is doing pretty good actually.  Stanley Steamer was just here stimulating the local economy for us.  

btw.....I'd hate to own property in Cocoa Beach or anywhere around the space coast about now.  Took a vacation down there last fall....nice area.  Thanks Obumer.....you're about to devastate a very large portion of the state and the states economy.

ya know.. thats another thing that doesn't make any sense. I heard the other day we IMPORT 40 % of our timber. thats just silly we have billions of board feet sitting around.
