I have a review - first time Darksider. I just installed a Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus 205/55/16. My initial thoughts:
On the bad side:
My first thought when riding the bike home was that I'd made a mistake. I wasn't supposed to have to do the "cage nut mod" with this size tire, but I had to - it was rubbing like crazy on the right side with every bump or rise in the road, and that was after setting the shock pre-load all the way up. At very slow speeds (like in my alleyway) it feels road grooves and pitch a lot, feels like the back end it jumping side to side. Turns at all speeds feel weird.
On the good side:
Straight line riding - great. Braking is absolutely terrific. Grip feels solid at all times.
After 500 miles:
Did the "cage nut mod" and it seems to have ended the rubbing. At medium and high speeds there is really no feel at all to road grooves or pitch, and at slow speeds it isn't that bad. Is the tire breaking in or am I? Turns feel pretty much normal now, even in the road u-turns feel fine. Tire grips the road very well. I've really mashed on the rear brake a few times to see if I could lock it up - haven't so far. I'm sure I could, but it grabs a LOT more than the Avon.
Overall - very happy with it now.

Hey Mondo , I am real impressed with the Michelin Pilot CT I mounted back in Dec. ..... I've got about 6,000 miles + on the clock and it runs greatttt .... now thats its getting warm here in San Antonio in the high 90's I have noticed that the CT tire expands from 32 to 38 lbs real easy . but other than that I'll never use a MC tire on the rear again ..... the Pilot is not an agressive tread pattern so it does not over act like some others might do .... SO SIT BACK AND ENJOY ! Oh by the way Mondo , do you know how to tell the age of your CT ? to make sure that you don't have a tire older than six years old ... look for the DOT letters and look for last two to four numbers at the end of the sentence ... mine was made in 0708 .... the seventh week in the year of 08 ..... Thanks Old Geezer Richard

In a previous subject called "205/65R16-so far so good" I made a few comments that seem relative to this string. and I have a little more to add as my personal conclusion. I did not do the nutcage mod. as I figured that raising the PSI in my #416 progressive's would do the job and I have no scraping, except a minor amount on a serious bump. I've been experimenting with the tire PSI's because, in all honesty, I've not been too happy with the way that wide flat tire has been pushing or steering the bike from the back. I also did not like the way I had to keep a very firm grip on the handle bars when in a moderate turn on the highway. The bike had a real strong tendency stand up in turns, follow the road curvature of the back roads (take you right off the road) and give you a real eye opening "jiggle" if you climbed up a "uneven pavement section". Oh yea, I have a "weave" which started at 75 and at 80 mph it got scary. I did not have it with the Avon. I experimented with PSI's on the new tire from 36 PSI down to 30. I thinking was that the lower PSI would allow the tire to absorb the irregularities without upsetting the bike. WRONG! I was quickly coming to the conclusion that: "This ain't for me". HOWEVER: Today I decided to try what a couple of other "Darksiders" did---raise the PSI! (By-the-way, I now have about 1000 miles of exerience on the new tire) This morning I bumped it up to 42 stone cold (tire max on side of tire is 44). After a few miles I thought, I must not be on the same roads. Mind you the bike is still not as nimble or stable as before, but I'd be willing to say that it is much improved. The push or jiggle steering by the back tire is considerably reduced and much less "force" is required in the curves and at 75 mph (that's as high as I wanted to go), she was again steady! It seems that the one ply side walls of those car tires (mine is a Goodyear Assurance) have to be held FIRM like the regular MC tires are. As before I'm only expressing my personal experiences & conclusions and hope it helps someone else decide.

Rick I've been runnin' the Cooper Zeon 2XS for years now and still have the Cooper Zeon on two of my Valkyries. I wanted to try something else since my last Cooper only lasted 7,400 miles....I looked around and found this one a Fuzion ZRi its a high performance directional and I'm really diggin' how it sticks and the nice round profile in fact I'll more than likely put the Fuzion on all my bikes when tire times rolls around on the others.

Just my 2 cents. After 2 yrs.-11000+ plus on a Toyo Proxes 205/55/16. I gave it my best,solo-2 up- Interstate-2 lane rutted secondarys, gravel et-al. My conclusion and only mine! The trade for the extra milage and cost savings to ME was not worth the low speed hassles and surprises at any time, and the constant horsing the bike around corners. I now have my beutiful handling, light on the bars Valk back,I had forgotten how easy it was to handle! Again, My opinion your milage may vary. Paul in Iowa
