I would think the finished product would end up costing more than a good deal on a bike that was 100% ride ready.

Even 2K is too much unless you can check it out. Could have a bent frame and who knows what condition the engine's in?

The miles are good & low but like Anvil said I would be concerned about the frame & engine. $3,500 is not realistic.

Bought this '99 last year for $2,000. 46K miles & ran great.

TONS of "redneck engineering" to undo along with some neglect but the title was clean & it came with some extras. cooldude Dents in the tank; risers, brake & clutch lines on backwards; filthy everywhere, missing bolts, UGLY seats, broken lights, spark plug drain holes plugged, all vacuum lines nasty, the list goes on. All fixed now.  cooldude
Still only have about $3,500 in it like it is now.

Now I have a back up Valk so I can take my time repainting my '97.  Wink

That dude is a bit optimistic on the value of that Valk!

I agree on the optimism, but I'm sure he's seen the motors go for around $900, the rims go for a bunch, etc, etc, and figures it's worth a shot.

Are my eyes deceiving me, or do those pipes look like Interstate's? if so, wouldn't it be pretty difficult, to put an Interstate back together, in that shape, than it would be a standard?

I would have liked to see a LOT more pictures, and better focus, if I was interested, before I'd make any offer at all.

Oh yeah, nice job, TT!

the problem with the bike is this....you buy it, the put a sizable chunk of change in it...what do you have?    a salvage bike...something if you ever go to sell it ...... it will always be salvage.

I have bought quite a few "salvage" titles in my life. And every one of them, was destined to be driven into the ground, or sold, as salvage, when I was done with them. Never hurt on a single one. The only difficulty I've had, is insuring them, sometimes.

I don't think anyone is arguing that unless you needed $3500 worth of parts, and there are $3500 worth of parts, ON the bike, then it is way too much. But, if the bike could be had for a small enough price, more realistic, it might be worth it to pursue. But, the picture doesn't do anything to make one think it's worth much at all.

I like your optimism, but having just gone through this myself, there is just NO information in that post that would help anyone make the decision to buy it. If you do, with what's there, then you are a sucker, and I've a bridge for sale.

You mentioned an IS, yes, looked over it more, I think you are right. But it shows again that there is not enough info there. But it also tells me that everything of value has already been removed. Then the parts you would need to buy to replace what is missing, would be too costly to do it.

You're right. There is maybe $3K worth of parts, but only that much, and only if someone wants the parts. Look how long it took to sell the gas tank. I had ads from ebay selling $880-$980, and I almost sold it for half that, only because the one you where willing to buy (SCAM), gave me a new max price. Bad timing for me, it was good for you.

Believe me, when I say I paid a lot less than that amount to buy back my IS, and it was complete, but broken. I didn't push hard on the prices, selling on Ebay, I didn't like loosing 10% to ebay and another 3% to paypal on every transaction, so I took a cut on my selling price and gave this money back to the purchaser instead. Made close to the same amount of money, but I hope that we both (purchaser/seller) was happier about the transaction.

I didn't say I was optimistic - the seller was. And he DOES have "make an offer". It's very possible that he would take a grand for it, you never know. But it also doesn't hurt if he asks a fortune - it has been often proven, that there's a sucker born every minute, and if this minute's sucker want's a beat up Valkyrie, here's his opportunity...

I also said there was nothing in the auction, that indicated there was anything worth buying, with the possible exception of the motor, maybe the wheels, etc. especially if you needed those parts. I know of MANY Valk owners, who have a wealth of spare parts. And if the mileage is correct, with NO motor damage, it would be nice to have. Not at $3500, but there is SOME price, that would be worth paying to have one. I spent years pursuing Sunbeam Alpines and Tigers. The day came, when it wasn't worth trying to stay ahead of the non-existent parts. Now, those parts are VERY expensive, and not too many buy an Alpine to restore, but buy parts to keep theirs up. That day may very well be coming for the Valkyrie's, as we are seeing the miles add up on them. Not that they won't last, but sooner or later, the parts are going to dry up. Case in point, the U-Joints - what if Honda had decided NOT to pursue them? Sure, there are some that have stepped up to the plate, making repairable ones, etc. But, it does illustrate my point.

Again, I was not saying the bike was worth the asking price. But, the bike DOES have a "make offer", and if the right offer from the right person shows up, they'll probably get whatever is there.

Sorry Roger, not trying to hit ya, just making comments.

Took a look at the post again, it's now down to $2500 OBO, and I noticed there have been 6 offers.

My offer, if I wanted anything from this bike, would be $1,000. That's most likely why his asking price has dropped. Oh, and a new frame sells for $1500.

Don't know if anybody's noticed, but the same seller has another listing for parts that one could assume are off this bike:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda-Valkyrie-1998-Honda-Valkyrie-parts-lot-/180699683939?pt=US_motorcycles&hash=item2a128a5c63

Looks to me like he crashed his personal bike, and is trying to come out ahead of what the insurance company gave him after buying it back.  I'd probably do the same, but I'd be a bit more realistic about what the corpse is worth, in addition to putting up better (or even, some) pictures.
