Hey Valk people. I have a 98 Tourer. I was out on a ride this weekend and the strangest thing happened. I have Kuryakyn grips and I was noticing that the grip had changed position. It acts like the grip actually cam loose on the sleeve a bit. but I dont think so. It seems very tight. Anyways the grip and throttle boss moved close to 1/2 inch,,and not all of a sudden. I have somewhat ruled out the grips actually being loose. Is it common for these cables to stretch? The throttle seems to work fine and is not binding (like a cable normally would if it is frayed) Any ideas?

In the heat of the day the glue in the grip gets soft.  When you ride it.....it moves a little, you dont notice it........it happenes again, and again until you notice it, but each time after it cools off the glue hardens and you think "how did that happen"

Thats my theory and Im "sticking" to it!

Along with the heat on the grip , if you mount the bike from the right side you might be pulling on the grip when you get on the bike. You will not ever notice it until one day you see that you grip is about to come off! Next time you get on your bike from the right side make a note to yourself to watch how you do it. You will see that you do pull on the grip just a little and over time a little = a lot cooldude

There's no way a throttle cable will stretch.

Steel line has no stretch, at least when examining the pulling apparatus, the throttle.

There are parts that may extrude, bend or wear to make slack in the line but the cable won't stretch.

Before a cable stretches, the ends on the cable will pull off. So look elsewhere for the reason for the slack.

And for those that take exception to this statement, please note that I am talking about the cable only, the part that is doing the work. Not the outside covering or anything else.

Au contraire.  Steel cable most assuredly stretches (but not 1/2" in that short of a run, not under the minimal load of a throttle cable and not if its been installed a while).  New cable stretches.  When we used to fabricate control cable, we had to pre-stretch it otherwise you'd be farting around with it for a week, trying to keep the cable tension within spec.  Most cable comes pre-stretched now.
