I am trying to figure out if the Interstate came stock with an electrical noise suppressor on the alternator. I could pull off all my covers, take the ALT apart and look myself...but i am hoping to make it easier and see if someone has the answer for this.  this is about the noise suppressors that are required for the CB.

The noise suppressor that you have to add on as an accessory on the standard and tourer is marked in the diagram below as "Noise Suppressor C."   Is this part already on all our Interstates?

That part should be stock on all Interstates.  You can just look under the cover to see if it's on yours.

tlh, I know you want the answer for this question.

I never did see this item on my IS, but then, I never removed the alt from the motor, only the motor from the bike.

Now I know what I'm looking at/for in the future. I did find the info on the 2nd one for the CB from the manual on the Valk Norway site.

You should take your cover off and look. The alt cover is only held on by one bolt and some tabs. Be careful you don't break them when you take the cover off, and that you put the cover back on correctly. You'll know if the cover isn't on right.

Yes, it's stock on an I/S.  However, if you buy the alternator, I don't think it will come with it.  I think it's separate from the alt.  It's held onto the back of the alt with one nut.  It is a black cube, ~3/4 inch per side.  You should be able to see it when the alt cover is removed.

I'm getting static in the speakers I put on my 98 Tourer.  I've looked on-line and can't find the noise filter. This morning I went to our bike shop that orders any parts I need and they are going to look for me they found nothing today.

Any shop that installs car stereos should be able to fix you up with something that works

Thanks, my speakers came with a noise filter. The instructions gave 3 different ways to wire it noting that motorcycles ground through the frame. I tried each way taking a 5 mile ride after each change. Then went with the hook-up that sounded best to me.
I'm hoping for less static I'll keep looking.

Doesn't alternator noise sound like a whine that varies in pitch with engine speed, rather than sounding like a static hiss?

Well I don't have a whine. Guess I was just going to throw filters at it until I got lucky. I appreciate the input this is a problem I've never had to deal with any sound system. Thanks.

Is the problem that the CB's squelch knob is not turned up enough?

Is the problem that the CB's squelch knob is not turned up enough?

Was away from the PC for an hour. Couldn't believe what I read   Embarrassed  I'm not a CB person but I knew you solved my problem with your question. Not for a second did squelch setting ever enter into my problem solving efforts. Took a 20 mile ride with my NEW sound and it's 90% now. Really good up to 45 mph at 60 mph I get some noise with the increased volume. I have my windshield tilted and get more wind noise. Not a real problem I will work on the adjustments.
Thank you so much. No way to know how much money I could have wasted and still have the same problem.
