Yesterday I started the bike to let it run a bit (too darn hot to ride). It sat there running about 5 minutes as I piddled around with something else then looked at the bike and noticed all the lights were off (headlight, taillight, front running lights). WTF!!! Messed with the hi/low switch back and forth, honked the horn (it worked), blinkers worked... huh?!?! Then all of a sudden they all came back on! Everything, hi/low, running, taillight.
Then just as fast they all went off again!!!
Messed with all the stuff again, nothing! Then on again!!??!!
A few weeks ago I changed the forks, triple trees, handlebars and both switches on the bars. One new, one ebay.
I'll pull the headlight bucket to check to see if anything came loose, Anyone know if there is any specific wire/circuit I need to pay special attention to?
Any other ideas/comments /suggestions?

Might check the starter switch. It turns the lights off/on during the start cycle.

2nd suggestion (Previous suggestion is more likely the culprit) Ignition switch and or it's connections.

Start wiggling the wires!
You've done so much work to that bike the past year, it's gonna be hard to isolate the problem.
The most recent work you list ought to be the most suspicious.
The different lights you note with the same problem is unusual since they are all not on the same circuit.
look at the relay/power panel you installed.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
Does the start button cut all the lights off or just the headlight? (this is the ebay switch)
Ricky D, what is the relay/power panel?

I know you did a lot of modifications to your bike. just have to look at some of that long thread you started last year!
All the extras (lighting) and it seems to me you made use of some terminal power supply for all that. Didn't you?
I'm wrong! I confused you with another VRCC poster.
Maybe I'm wrong and you just tied into the existing wiring on the bike.
Either way, start wiggling the wires and don't forget the last performed work would be the likely culprit!

If they went off and on while you were Not touching anything, I would say its a thermal related bad connection. Could even be the fuse itself. If it is cracked it will heat up till the connection opens and then will cool off because of no load and reconnect. It will keep doing this just like a turn signal flasher but way slower. Change the fuse before tearing the headlight apart. If it is not the fuse it should be a plug with a bad connection doing the same thing. Maybe the starter switch could act this way also?? I don't have that much Valk specific experience to know for sure.

It's the IG2 circuit of your ignition switch. Either the switch or the wiring between the switch and the fuse block is bad. Try wiggling the key to see if the lights come on. If they do, you've found your problem. If not, the problem is still that circuit, but it will take a little more work to find exactly where it is.

The start button only cuts out the headlight (and driving lights, if they've been installed in that circuit.) All the other lights should stay on during starting.

Starter switch only kills the headlight, so most likely not that. However, the 12v does go through the headlight assembly. I would first try reseating all the plugs in the headlight assy.
I doubt if this is your problem, but I have seen a fuse heat up, changing resistance, which drops more voltage causing the circuit to fail resembling an open fuse til it cools.

It's the IG2 circuit of your ignition switch. Either the switch or the wiring between the switch and the fuse block is bad. Try wiggling the key to see if the lights come on. If they do, you've found your problem. This is it! Thanks for all the help guys!! I was a bit too busy last evening to do anything on the bike but as I was passing by I decided to at least turn on the ignition and wiggle a few things to see if I can isolate a problem area. I turned the key on and lo and behold the lights weren't on, wiggled the key they came on, wiggled again they went off. So is this indicating a bad ignition switch which will need to be replaced or can it be repaired somehow? I'm wrong! I just wanted to memorialize this moment!! So do we need to put this post as a "sticky"...
