I have Charter Cable.....and AT&T(used to be BellSouth).......between the two of them, it costs me $170+/month..... I'm thinking about switching to U-verse for all my services...Internet, TV, phone......Charter took away some channels I liked to watch and the pecker heads had some guy bury the cable from the street to the house with a SHOVEL....the cable is too shallow for me to ever aerate the lawn(if I wanted to)....in a place or two, you could see the cable..... .....they were SUPPOSED to have the cable buried at least 12" deep with a vibratory plow.....I got a dude with a shovel(was at work when he replaced the cable).....getting hold of a RLP on the phone is a PIA too!!.....ANYWAYS, Since I already have phone and DSL with AT&T, I could keep my main email addy.....and pay just one bill, BUT get a lot more channels than I have now.....I guess I'd lose my TV service in my woodworking shop in the backyard since I buried a co-axial cable with the power to the building....never added a phone line since the cordless or cell phone can be used back there..... What I'm not sure about is how they make the other TV's in the house work with the main TV, which is an HD 32" set?......wonder if they'd have to have a wire from the phone jack to the TV, or would each TV have to have a "receiver"??.......and we'd have to make sure our laptop wireless network would still work with the wireless printer and all.....and we have an additional DVR player with surround sound on the main TV.... my main hold up is having to change out the cable company stuff for the phone company stuff.....is it to big of a PIA to fool with??..... Anyone here made the swap and have some answers??......I watched the AT&T video of "Installation" but it didn't answer most of the Q's I had.....

I believe its a receiver for each TV. When we had satilite we only got the 1 rec for the main tv. They wanted to much for the others. Only have the farmer 5 now.

They connect the other TVs in the house with a CAT5 cable run from the main box to an additional box at the TV.
I switched to U-Verse about a year and half ago and really like it. I also have 18 Mbs internet in the deal. And you know I like that!

Why do you have a land line phone at home? I have basic DISH and the basic DSL Charter. Total cost per month about $85 with all junk fees If you MUST have a home phone have you looked at http://www.ooma.com/Clark Howard rates it very highly.

How do they do that??....you mean they run a cable from the main TV receiver to each TV in the house?... They run a CAT5 from their modem/router to each TV and I think they can only do 4 TVs. Not absolutely sure about that, but pretty sure. But they don't fish walls and install wall jacks for the Ethernet cable. They drill the floor next the baseboard and install the jack. I didn't go for that since I installed hardwood floors a couple of years ago and wasn't about to let somebody drill holes in them. I paid a guy to run the wire under the house and fish the wall to mount a wall jack. Only the main receiver box can pause/rewind live tv. But the remote box(s) can record and you can pause and rewind anything that's recorded, or currently recording. Also, the remote box can play anything that's recorded on the main box. I like it. It's a nice system.

Thanks.....that was what I wanted to know.....I'm not wild about drilling holes through the floor at the baseboards either.....I've helped an electrician buddy of mine install wall jacks before...not hard to do, but more work than I'd like to do.....I guess I need to mull this over some more.....Thanks for the info.

I like watching the classic movie channels....and Home and Garden....History....a few others that you can't pick up with the "rabbit ears".....probably not worth all the $$ to see them..... Believe it or not, I have my Valk chromed out about as far as I want to go......I never cared for the trunk/saddlebag rails...too hard to clean behind them....

I have Verizon FIOS internet and phone at home.... but no Cable/Satellite or other "paid" TV. I used FREE Digital HD TV that is broadcast locally, using an antenna in my attic, with cable split to each TV. Older TV's need a Digital Tuner box (like a cable box). I get ABC/CBS/NBC/FOX/TBS and a few others I normally don't watch. If there is something I really want to watch that isn't shown on my local channels, I can usually find it on the internet and watch it at my convenience. Stop feeding that monster....
