With 1000 miles on the bike this spring, I thought I would post my thoughts on what I have done for mods on my 97 standard this year.  1. Darkside, I mounted a Goodyear Triple Tread 205 60 16.  I love the tire, the bike feels better (thats right, BETTER) in the corners than any bike tire that I have had on the back.  The bike is stable right on up to 125, where I start getting a little wobble that is most likely caused by the large windshield and hand guards that are on the bike.  2. Replaced the left rear bearing and seal with a double race bearing like the right.  No problems so far,  It will probably last for ever.  3.  Dyna 3000 and stock trigger modded to give 7 degrees of hard advance.  I am running the Dyna on curve 7 with the unit grounded (retarded 10 degrees) until I am up to cruising speed then cut the retard out.  I can cruise down the xway at 75 to 80 and still get 36 miles per gallon.  The butt dyno tells me that from idle to about 3500 rpm there is about the same feeling as the ECT mod I ran last year, but at 3500 and above, She takes off like a rocket Evil.  I also put in IS carb springs, and the throttle response is quicker than standard.  By the way,  I have an Avon Cobra on the front, that has about 8500 on it now, and will replace it with another Cobra when it's time.  For cutting the advance in and out, I mounted a Big Bike Parts triple toggle switch to the brake resevour and use one of the switches for a relay to ground and unground the Dyna  cooldude.

Did you cut the left hand spacer fabricate a new one to install the wider brg? Did you have it milled or cut and what dimension?

a lathe at work and faced the end off.  I don't remember the final width, but .259 is what has to come off of the spacer.

I mounted my Big Bike Parts triple toggle switch to the clutch resevour. A little filing and it fits. I don't have to reach over to hit the retard switch or my auxiliary light switch.
My bike doesn't want the added advance until after 2500 rpms.

I am almost convinced to try the wheel and switch.  I do a lot of interstate riding and an additional 2 or 3 mpg at 75mph does'nt sound bad.

more like 4 to 5 miles per gallon.  That is on my commute to work (144 miles round trip, with about 120 of xway).  She also has a K&N with no prefilter and cut piggies Wink.
