Had a guy here yesterday looking at mny trailer. He said ABS and the 103 add $2500 to the price on the bike he wanted. Anyone see the new 2012 Victory Tourer. Honda may not listen buy Victory has.

The 103 is HD's way of trying to maintain HP with evr tightening emission standards. They did the same thing when they went from 88 to 96 CI's. Last weekend I spoke with a guy who has a 2010 103 and says his older 88 is faster.

I've ridden both and he's out of his mind.

The new Vic 106 engine is a gem. But Vic isn't tied to a history so they're free to do more with the motor that alters it's look, multivalve heads being the big advantage it has over the similarly sized Harley engine.

I've also ridden both and don't think there's a lot of difference. Everytime they up the displacement they end up adding answers to meet EPA regs and losing some of the gain. They are bigger but make very little more HP or TQ on the charts. The main thing they do is make your leg hotter. The Vic/HD battle is one I've read for years now and can tell you that the Vic Freedom engine is an easier design to get power out of. The HD can be freed up, run cooler, perform better, but at greater cost.

These are my seat of the pants observations and charts to back them are available from many sources. Personally, I ride a Vic, have had multiple HD's, plus just about every bike made in the mainline has been in my garage at one time or another, and I've loved them all. All of them got from point A to point B in satisfactorily manner (most of the time) and I'm only hoping the Valk I just bought, after it's set up for the road, will do the same. Smiley Mfg'er loyalty has never been a strong point for my choices.

I think you will find that the Valkyrie, in all cases, will shine in the long run.  cooldude

Nope. The 88 in stock form made just shy of 60HP, the 96 made about 65HP but even more importantly the 96 made a good 15 more foot-lbs of torque than the 88 and that's really what people pay more attention to with HD's.

A new HD, a new Victory, or my old Valks,...after careful consideration, I'll keep my "old Valks".

Never lusted for any "real" motorcycle more than the Valkyrie. But then that just may be me, I guess.

But I also still lust  for an old "Munch Mamoth" too.

103 Limited was a little more expensive on the Ultra Classic Electraglide Limited Edition

Now you get it free on the 2012.

Harley has been letting the public be the test bed for most new models.

After they test them and then they run a few through the mill of public real world use.

Pretty Damn Smart.

It is paying off in better quality, quaility and Harley did not used to be bedfellows.

WHat a change.

Union men an woman working together to build a quality product for the company they serve with thier time and talent.

God if this catches on we may pull out of this thing we call Recession/Depression.

It will take hard work and sacrifice, but we all do that everyday.

The gov't can't do it for us.

We the People of the US will be the ones that do it.

Every year at the nearby HD I visit, I look at the bikes. Same salesman comes up and asks....
'if I'm interested in this bike'.
'I could be.'
'What ya ride now?'
'Valkyrie'
'Keep that power.'  coolsmiley

I hafta agree. I had ridden several 88's & was very underwhelmed. A couple years ago I took a test ride at Daytona Bikeweek on the new 96 inch. MUCH better. Pulled real hard right off the line felt much stronger longer, still ran out of breath pretty quick but a definite improvement. It was the total opposite of the Valk with all the power down low. The Valk likes to rev more like a crotch rocket powerband.
BTW, the stock seats on Harleys are the BOMB! Only spent about a half hour on it but it was great. Honda take a lesson! I know you gotta spend a fortune to get a Harley to run decently fast but I had to give Des at Ultimate Seats damn near $1,000 to make my Valk comfortable!  Shocked

I really like the Victory Cross Country Tour as it has ABS, EFI, Cruise, 6 Speed trans etc. But it also costs $22K. That's two Valkyrie Interstates in excellent condition with a lot of money left over for cruise control plus gas and traveling money.  Wink
