Got the airbox tubes beyond the frame and nothing seems hung up.  I can secure the right side tubes to the carbs but can not get the left to seat down far enough.  I noticed there is a raise ring around the metal tubes where the rubber tube slides over.

Am I right the rubber tubes go on past those rings?

Even if I push down on the box and tighten all the clamps they will slide back up.

HELP....

I feel your pain. I did mine this morning and its a bitch for sure. You're on the right track. My left side was the most difficult too. I just kept working at it. One of your tubes might be off in back. They should fit all the way down on the black tubes. I got mine within 1/4" and held the airbox down while I tightened the clamps. It seemed to settle in.

I thought I read once that someone who found it very difficult to mount one side, then the other, found it easier to get the front 2 mounted, the middle ones started. Then the back ones started, while you get the middle ones mounted properly. Front to back, rather than one side, then the next.

First, check to see if the rubber tubes are all on square and not curled up on the backside of the carb neck. Also, you DID remove the coil on the left side...right? Just unbolt it, pull the wires off and lay off to the side out of the way. Then get a short piece of 2x4 (I have one about 5" long) and after installing the airbox lid, place the 2x4 on top. Get a ratcheting tie down strap, hook it on one engine guard underneath....where it is horizontal and goes back to bolt to the side under the engine. Pass it over the 2x4 and down the other side and hook it to the same general area on that engine guard. Then ratchet it down. It will pull the airbox down in place, leaving both hands free to work all the rubber tubes into place on the carbs. After you've made certain all the tubes are square on the carbs, screw in the bolt at the back of the box and reinstall all three of the hoses under the airbox. Then tighten down all the hose clamps.

If you didn't do the desmog, you have three tubes that could be misaligned on the rear of the airbox.  Check that before you push too hard, the all need to be started onto the proper tubes.  If it is desmogged you should have two of said tubes or hoses, the smaller ones not the intake tubes.

DaveMN you were right. I found the backs of the tubes were not seated.  Messed with it for an hours but got it done.

don't do one side then the other........get all of the clamps put down, then put the tubes on and pushed down....make sure the tubes are completly seated.... then i pull the clamps up onto the tubes...all of them.....then i tighten the clamps....then go back and double check that the tubes are not crimped up, and are on straight.

Best bet for the clamps...loosen them up enough to slide up above the area on the rubber tube where they're supposed to be. That keeps them out of the way, and if you expand them enough they just slip down in place when you're ready. As for getting the rubber tubes down onto the carbs without a curl in back, that's easy. Just raise the front part of the offending tube and slide a medium length skinny screwdriver around the top of the carb. It will cause the tube that's curled under to slip right down into place. You can do all six carbs in just a few minutes.

I too well know this terrible pain in the ARSE of a task.

Took me a couple of days and many try, oh and WAY too many swear words. I almost gave up I was so pissed off at mine I considered a trade in for a WING that weekend. But with support and direction and suggstions form fellow members I finally got mine back together. The Valkyre will be the LAST and only carburated "street bike" I will ever buy if I ever buy anything else in the future.

I know this can be a bear but, "never give up never surrender". I am too hard headed to walk away without finishing what I startd

Had to walk away from mine for the night the first time I did mine. Got it on and clamped down, and it ran like crap. Couldnt figure out why until i looked and found the back of all 6 tubes rolled under. tickedoff

A little bit of wire lubricant or even dish detergent will also help. The airbox on my ZX7 was a pain in the ass to get seated without a little bit of lubricant.
