Did the Desmog yesterday and all went well. Rode about 20 miles and it ran strong.

Today I went for a 200 mile ride.  About 50 miles into running 75mph I twisted the throttle to pass and it would not go any faster, like not getting more gas.  There was a rest stop ahead so I pulled in, costed through the parkinglot and it ran strong wheh twisting the throttle.

Pulled back onto the rode without shutting it down and it ran normal again.  It did it one more time about 20 miles later.  This time I turned it to reserve and it seemed to help.  I filled up about 5 miles later and only put 3.3 gallons in.  I don't believe I was at reserve becuase I usually hit it at more miles and when filling it takes about 4.4 gallons.

So I loss pwer twice. It did not stall. just would not go faster when twisting the throttle.  Vent lines are fine.

Any thoughts?  Thanks,  Mark

Still sounds like the 'classic' kinked vent line.. If not, then, how is the petcock and vacuum line ?

i have had the same problem, I found it to have to do with the pet rooster vacuum line. I seem to have solved that problem, but I still find myself running out at about 3 gallons down. I think the problem might be the pressure in the tank with only about 2 gallons in it is not enough to push  fuel through the gas line inline filter. I may remove the filter to see if this helps.

I've had the exact same symptoms before.  The screen above the petcock sticking into the tank was screwed up.  That made the 3rd different thing to go wrong with the stock petcock in 3 months.  For me, it was "hello pingle."  I have not had another fuel delivery issue since.

Pressure in the gas tank is a non-starter.

Whether it is full or one/half or even one/eighth tank,, the pressure from the different levels of gas in the tank, though existent is negligible, when looking at fuel delivery to the carburetors.

One thing I've noticed with some of the inline filter installations...they allow a low area in the fuel line, doesn't take much to cause problems.  Friend of mine had also installed the quick disconnect with an inline, would run fine with a full tank. Below half, same problem as described here. I suggested he reroute the fuel line so it was "downhill" all the way from the petcock to the T. He did...no more problems. I've had an inline filter installed for about four years with a Pingle and a Dan Marc shut off. Never had the first trouble with it, the bike will run as fast as you like right down to the last useable drop.

Did you put in a new fuel line? Did this when I desmogged, and to make it easier to reconnect, I made it an inch ish longer, which made it sag and the old girl starve for fuel.

I did replace the vacuum line to the petcock and made it about 2 inches longer.  Also installed a quick disconnect from Redeye.

Ding ding ding! We might have a winner. Likely to be all that extra length from the fuel line and quick disconnect install. I ran into similiar problem although found minewhoope still in the yard bike starved of fuel I also added a "TINY" bit extra fuel line less than an inch and that was enough to kink it downward and she would run for a big and only run at an idle would not rev up...

ANY extra length in the fuel line will cause this once it warms up real good under the tank. It baffled me for a while after I installed an inline fuel filter. I was finally able to reach under the tank at speed and feel it kinking. Cut it as short as possible and problem solved.

Problem gets worse as fuel quantity decreases, usually starts with about 2 gallons gone, early reserve sometimes fixes it for a while.

Had the same problem, went away when I removed the quick disconnect.

I have an inline filter and redeye quick disconnect. I like the disconnect, makes it allot easier to get the tank off. I wonder what about it would limit fuel flow. Thanks Rick In Kansas City, too muggy to ride.

Well I removed the quick disconnect.  No time to ride so I will have to see if that was it.  It is now back to stock as for the gas line connection.  Thanks for the help guys.
