My GF just came back from a business trip in Toronto and she was very disappointed in the candy selection up there....   she loves her Hershey Kisses and Mar's M&M's and didn't find any... but did find Nestle's Smarties (we don't have them here) which are similar in size and type of candy to the M&M's..... but much different in taste.   Why no Hershey candies up there?    ???

There are a few candy bars that we are unable to get that are available in the U.S. but the vice versa is also true.  Next time the GF is in Toronto or in Canada, tell her to get a Coffee Crisp, actually tell her not to get one, but bring home a whole box as this will soon become your favourite.  While living in Arizona, every time I had a friend or I came home for a visit to Canada, I would always bring a box back with me and let my co-workers try them.  Needless to say the loved them.

We do have M & M's, not sure why she could not find them but the smarties are good. You can get all the candie's that you listed below in Canada, some that you cannot are, "Whatchamacallit" and a few more that I cannot think of.  Not sure of the reason, but it could be because of naming rights with other candy manufacturers.

Yes, those are the ones.  That is a bit steep in price but if you really like chocolate bars you will like these, promise you they are that good.

As far as I know, Coffee Crisps are no more expensive here than any other chocolate bar.  I think they are that expensive on E-bay because it's an exotic rarity in the States.  I only eat them when my kids pay me my commission for taking them out trick-or-treating.  I don't know where your GF was looking, but Kisses, Mars bars and M&Ms are common here.  I remember when I was in high school being at a youth convention which drew many kids from the US, and the American kids were all excited about the different flavours of potato chips we had, especially ketchup flavour.  One difference between US and Canadian products is that pop must be coloured like colas to be allowed to have caffeine.  E.g. Mountain Dew up here is caffeine free.

Kisses and MnMs tend to be sold here in larger bags, so look in the candy aisle of large drugstores and groceries, like Safeway, Lablaws etc. Mars bars, all kinds, I see at convenience stores everywhere. As for sponge toffee, try a Crunchie bar!

Now if only Mounds and Almond Joy were easy to find up here...

Hershey Shmershey... I'm sure it's unrelated, markets being what they are, but - Hershey had a plant about a half hour from my place, in a small town ( = big local employer). Major pitstop for locals and tourists alike as they had tours of the production line and an on-site store. I loved going there.

Then, 2-3 years ago, they just closed it all up and moved that production to Mexico. Down the Hershey highway they went...
At least it wasn't to China.  

That left a less-than-chocolatey taste in my mouth. But, again, I don't see such a move impacting local product availability.
