Ok, so I went to start my Valk up today...It has sort of been missing a bit lately and running rough, am going to rebuild the carbs next week.  Any I went to start it this evening, turned on the fuel and without thinking I gave it a little gas before tried to start.  It seemed like it didnt want to start and then shot about 2 foot of flames out of one of the 2bros.  pipes (6 into 6).  I let of the starter and the flame sunk back into the pipe still burning but barely....I blew it out like a candle.....So I am thinking either that since it needs a carb rebuilt and has been running rough maybe a little unburnt fuel could have in the exhaust from yesterday or possibly fuel is leaking into the cylinder and since the fuel was off not enough was present to damage the engine....any thoughts....I parked it tonight and let it run dry after I shut the fuel off just to be sure...........Do I have anything to worry about???

The first thing to do is check the spark plugs.

Replacing them would be a good idea.

Turning the gas like you did made no difference about the backfire.

Running the motor should do no harm as long as it's firing on all six cylinders.

that makes sense....now I have to drive it about 200 miles next week to get the carbs redone...I guess it could have fouled one or more of the plugs....should I change the plugs before I make the trip or after the carbs are redone or both just to be sure.....the first change to make the trip safely and then again to make sure they aren't fouled again...

I would change them now. If it helps, great; if not, what have you lost? You'll need new plugs after the carb work, and I doubt 200 miles would destroy them. OK, maybe one, but have an extra and check which cylinder was bad and change that.
