So I want to take the right hand grip off so I can fit a throttle lock on my bike. I can get that silly plastic/chrome end cap off easy enough, but the grip seems to be quite firmly attached to the pale yellow throttle cylinder thingy.

I am trying to get #8 off from #7 in this fich:

Do I just need to twist harder? Do I need some chemical to soften some glue?

Thanks,

Have ya got an air compressor?

Gently work the end of the rubber grip with a screwdriver [careful], tongue depressor or finger and stick a small nozzle adapter in there and give it a shot of air. 10 psi should be ample, if not increase it by 5 lb. increments. It should blow it right off. If not do a second or third location on the end or just hit with 30 pounds of air.

Sorry, your aerosol keyboard dust off won't work. Not normally anyway!

Install your lock & test it, clean the old glue from both parts, re-glue and install the grip.

About 2 weeks ago I replaced the original left grip. Used a small flat tip screwdriver. The air didn't work or I was doing it wrong. The bar end was completely covered with factory adhesive and was still slightly tacky. Haven't done the throttle side.

I need to re-attach my left grip because over the years it has moved down away from the switch-gear by  about 1/4" so I need to loosen and then push it back up so it's snug.  Is there adhesive on the left grip or is it just held on with friction?  If so what type do I need to get to reapply?  Thanks.

Pull the cap, slide an ice pick between grip and bar, slide in thin nozzle of WD40/brake cleaner/carb cleaner beside the ice pick and spray.  Do it a couple times around, and the grip will come off.  Clean out the grip and bar end, scuff the bar end with sandpaper (only as high as the grip).  Grease the bar end with RTV silicone (and add some to the grip).  Slide on the grip, position it where you want it, clean up the residue, and let it set up overnight.

I've used RTV on both grips of multiple bikes for many years.  It may not last as long as gorilla glue, etc, but it never sets up so fast you can't get things set just where you want them before it hardens.  My throttle grip comes (slowly/partially) loose about once a year; the left side never comes loose.

Demo you quoted my post where I said the bar end was covered with factory adhesive.
I slid the new grip on that adhesive and it seems to be holding very well.
I'll get 500 miles from home it will probably slide off  Smiley

If yours is letting go I would clean the bar and apply new adhesive. I haven't used any so I can't recommend a brand.

I used the air compressor with a ball needle (used to inflate basketballs) and it worked like a champ.  cooldude  Just work the needle around the grip while hitting it with air and it floated right off.
