The Landmass Between Mobile And New Orleans

« on: August 02, 2011, 10:57:05 PM »

Last Friday night I took my final for English Comp II and tonight I took my Anatomy & Physiology II final.  I'm pretty sure I made an A in English.  I'll be happy if I made a C in Anatomy.  It was two nights a week, four hours a night.  Each class was the equivalent of a week's worth of classes during Fall or Spring semester.  Definitely high speed low drag and hard.  If I didn't, I get to take it over again in the Fall.

On a positive note, I start Nursing School on the 19th.   Cool

Higher education later in life is great. I put in 2 1/2 years getting a Bus/Admin diploma in my 30's and the experience was awesome!

And the breast feeding thing, I hope you do well... Cheesy

Especially when the prof is working on his PhD dissertation and other job so the class falls by the wayside.  He stopped teaching during the 3rd week of an 8 week semester.  We ended up basically figuring it out for ourselves.  I would have dropped except I was trying to keep my eye on getting it over with cause I don't want to do this class during the 1st semester of Nursing School.

The only thing that kept me from college was high school.

I think good judgement is more important than uneeded education.

good judgment comes from experience....experience come from bad judgement.

Congrats Marty, it must be a good feeling, I know I tried to get into the college thing, wasnt for me......  cooldude

I agree. BUT, it's a tough job market out there right now and guys with degrees are getting jobs over guys without them despite the fact that both are roughly equal in actual experience. Just something to consider when considering going back to school to finish something up.

And congratulations. I have two friends in nursing school right now and it's tough.

Good deal, Marty. My sister finished her BN at the age of 48. It's a rewarding and challenging field.  Kinda bugs me when ya spend that much for a class and the professor is next to useless. Hope you have better luck in prof's during the rest of your schooling.

Hey X Ring, I have a BSN/RN that I'm not using right now.  Would make you a special deal on them if you'd like, hehe.. Seriously, congratulations on starting nursing school. Larry

Didn't expect it to be easy.  Nothing worthwhile in this life is or it wouldn't be worth it.

Specialize in geriatric nursing.
It'd be great on this board, plus if you move to FL you could make some serious money.

I'm already planning to take the classes to get my BSN after I get the Associate Degree in Nursing.  I've checked out the University of South Alabama and the University of Southern Mississippi.  Both have similar programs.  I can take 9 more courses through the Community College then transfer in to take their online nursing courses.

Congratulations Marty (I'm sure you did better than a C in A & P... but a C is still a pass and not a repeat).

Me, I went to school from age 6 to 28, straight thru and full-time (and this doesn't count the whole pile of schools/courses the USAF sent me to)........ and I ain't never goin back.  tickedoff

I wouldn't mind a course in gunsmithing (or maybe welding), but as I get older I been thinking about a masters in (receiving) lap-dance though I probably couldn't afford it, and I'd probably fail the final)   Cool.

Congratulations Marty! I know it's hard but when all said and done it will be very rewarding. I watched my wife constantly studying after work and after school totaly consumed by it but it paid off after those years. I picked up some of her books and laid them down pretty fast bc it was all over my head...and words I only wished I could pronounce!  2funny She said they have to know what a doctor knows with far less pay!  Anyway you picked a good profession as it is one of the few jobs that is recession proof with great incentives and nice hiring bonuses.  cooldude

That's one of the reasons I chose it.  Plus I still have the desire to help people.

Congratulations and good luck brother! It’s a great start to working in a wonderingly fulfilling career! Outstanding!  I don’t know how it is in your area, but up here in Michigan, as I understand it, there’s a HUGE nursing shortage! And, if you want to work in a correctional setting, male nurses can pretty much walk right in and start up! I'm just saying. . . .

On a side note; having just gone through another hospital stay I was reminded of one of basic tenants of having a successful, uneventful procedure & recuperation. And that is; NEVER MESS WITH THE NURSES! Doctors don’t matter, but you just don’t want an angry nurse looking out for you!  cooldude

I've seen recent pics of you!  I've lost about 80 lbs since you last saw me.  You look like you found it and more!

You know I don't have hair to hold that hat on.  The white dress is still a couple years away.
