Got my new Darkside tire up to 110 MPH today.

Smooth up to 95

Started a barely noticeable wobble at 100

At 105 it was a dangerous wobble that could have had me doing a tank-slapper..

Tried 3 times, and got the same results all 3 times.

Since Enchanted Bike Works screwed up everything else they touched, I'm wondering if maybe they didn't balance the tire.  What do you think?  Could an unbalanced tire cause this?  I've never experienced this wobble before on my Valk.

thanks!

Never had that problem with my Darkside tire.  Got up to 125 with no wobble but ran out of courage so went no faster.

It almost sounds as if it gets loose at higher speeds.  Not sure how that would happen, but I can't remember a balance problem showing up as you describe and to that degree.  Are you sure it's not the front of the bike that is oscillating, like head bearings maybe?  That would be my guess.

But I'll leave this to the smart people.  Also, you might post to the tech board on the national forum.

Mine does that but I think the swing arm bearings need to be tightened. I would describe mine as more of a tail wag.
The deadly tank slapper is another thing. The wag is scary enough but it does not knock your hands off of the grips.
Air pressure could be causing it as well or should I say the differential between front tire air pressure and rear tire air pressure.
And that depends partly on what tire you are running. But most run 42 front and 44 rear with bike tires. It can be lower on the rear for the car tire.
I ran 36 in my car tire. If you have it too high it will wear the center out before the rest of the tread.
We can discuss this further if you make it to the Wrench party. I'm sure someone will chime in with thier .02 way before then.
Oh! Almost forgot one other thing and that is it could be the shock bushings being worn out.
Look at the top of the shock where the frame bolt goes through and the washer should be center of the round part of the shock.
If not or the rubber bushing is squeezed out some then they need to be replaced. Pruor makes some that I believe are better than OEM.
Contact him on this forum for ordering directions.
I REALLY don't think Enchanted could have done anything wrong... Tongue Sorry I could not resist...
Remember keep it simple to start with and get the tire pressures up there and check the easy and least expensive stuff first.
Then move on to maybe stearing head bearings.

Do you remember if Enchanted took off your rear shocks?  if they did, maybe the forgot to put that bushing back in place when they re-assembled?  Or they messed up the bushings somehow.
I'll be happy to come take a look...

Enchanted works on my Valks all the time, never had a problem.  They will have aired the tire up to the tire mfg recommendations - covers their rear.

Wizard said he had the same problem with his darkside tire until he put 42 pounds of air pressure in it.  Low pressure can cause wobble.

Lyn-del,
I HIGHLY recommend you read Heathen's previous post:

After his experience at Enchanted...I don't know if I could take my bike there, honestly.

Cheesy  A wobble can also be caused by not having your FRONT and REAR tire patterns matched up.

Avon Venom front and Bridgestone Fusion a good match.

Now have a Metzler front( seems to last longer than Avon and better traction too) and Goodyear Assurance 205x60x 16( NO did not have to make any special adjustments for it to fit!)

also, check to see if possibly they mounted the tire BACKWARDS( pattern facing the back of the bike instead of forward) that could also cause wobble, and check your air pressure to recommended pressure.  You may have to trial and error to get it right! Ride safe, Hollywood

Pattern is right...thank goodness!  (I looked).
Shock bushings are suspect...one side was mushroomed out alot, the other wasn't.  Also, the left side bolt that holds the shock was probably under the 12 foot-pounds of torque (I am fairly sure I hand tightened it tighter than it was before we unbolted it!) and the right side was on so tight that the 12mm wrench in the honda tool-kit was insufficient to loosen it.
He should have his bike today and post an update soon!
