Hi guys, first post.  Nice board you have here.

My dad was a motorcycle enthusiast for years but due to a number of reasons gave it up a while ago.  The last bike he ever owned was a 1997 Valkyrie.  When he purchased it there was a CB system installed that he didn't get much use out of so he removed it.  He gave it to me a while back when he was cleaning up to see if I could possibly sell it for him.  The only problem is that we don't have a bike to test it out on.

I did a little research online and found a wiring diagram for it.  One of my electronics buddies said I could use my car battery to power it since it would supply the same 12 volts as the motorcycle battery.  I guess that would at least register something on the controller unit.  I really have no idea about this kind of stuff so I thought I'd ask here to see if you had any advice or even general info on this CB system.

Here's a couple pics of what I've got.  Thanks for any info or suggestions!!

That's the same unit I have on my 98 Valkyrie Tourer. Mine works but I am not a CB person. I play a MP3 player through it and use the thumb volume control. I don't know if they are still available new but I saw them listed at $729. I found it by accident punching in an incorrect part number.

Do not know where your located. Do you have a C B shop or a Radio Shack handy?? What ever you do BEFORE attempting to power that C B up make SURE it is hooked up to a working C B ant or a DUMMY load. If you find a good C B person they should know about the procedures. You power it up and don't know what yer doing you WILL have a worthless pile of electronic junk. uglystupid2 If you do find it works rather well-lets just say you have a VERY desireable piece for Valkyries. coolsmiley Make SURE who ever works on it KNOWS what they are doing. I can't stress the knowledge part on the repair persons part enough. Hope it works for you. Look at E bay past auctions and see what they went for. Check with honda and see what they are worth. You ain't gonna get rich-but you will be able to fill your gas tank(s) a couple of times. 2funny 2funny RIDE SAFE.

+1 on having a load on the antenna, or you could blow it out.

Maybe it just doesn't show in the PICs, but there's an installation kit that goes with the unit which, among other things, includes a complete wiring loom that has to be installed on the bike, including noise suppressors. However, they are still available I believe, at the link below

Then there's the antenna issue....

Hey, thanks for the replies!

I do have the antenna but not the installation kit.  I'll be sure to note that when I sell it.

There is a radio shack nearby but based on my past experiences there I don't think they would be much help with this.  I think my best bet would be to wait a bit and find someone more knowledgeable in this area.  Will ask around and see if I can find someone.  I took it to the local Honda shop last week to see if they knew anything and they were very friendly but offered little insight.  Thanks again for the help!

If your close to a major Interstate highway and one or two good size truck stops you just might be able to find a C B shop. Fair warning though-C B shops are like any other repair facilities Bad ones and good ones and mediocre ones. Be careful WHO you let work on it. Good luck in your quest. RIDE SAFE.

Dag's web site has both CB manuals. http://valkyrienorway.com/download.html

I would rather suggest posting your location, and ask for help from someone who has a working CB system, that you could swap out your CB with, and verify if it functions.

Thanks guys.  I'm in eastern NC.  I-95 runs right through my city.  I would LOVE to find someone in the area that would be able to test it on their bike.  I would also send it out to someone from this site if anyone would like to test it out for me.  I would make sure you were compensated of course.

Whatever you do, DON'T cut the antenna wire without consulting a good CB shop. The legnth of that cable is part of how the whole thing works.
