Question for those who have mounted LED strip lights under your tank:

Did you mount the strips to the underside of the tank or did you mount them to the frame rails that pass under the tank?

And if you did mount them to the tank, where on the tank did you mount them?

I have a set and want to install this weekend, so your input is appreciated

My bike has the '3 LED Pods' mounted to the frame, under the tank, one on each side shining down on the Kury Tranny Covers.  I have another pair (chrome) mounted to the choke slide covers, pointing down the intake runners to the valve cover, and another pair facing forward and down, on the front frame area, to hi-lite the front forks & wheel area.

I would think mounting to the tank would be one more thing to disconnect when taking the tank off.  I'd rather use the rails, making sure they wouldn't interfere with getting the airbox in or out.

I mounted mine to the frame under the tank. An 18-light strip on both sides, and a 15-light strip under each carb slide cover:

I also mounted mine on the frame, they light up similar to doubletree's but mine is a 10 light strip.  Although, I always forget that they are there and have only turned them on 5 times in the last 5 years.

For the love of god, there's no 'r' in my handle. Even my name tags at the last two InZanes were incorrect. It's 'doubletee' - as in 2 Ts.   tickedoff

(Just poking fun. I'm not really upset about any of it.  Cheesy   )

Did you have to remove the tank to do it?

Yes. I had to remove the tank to replace the air filter, so I installed them while the tank was off.  No other way (that I could find) to reach that part of the frame without removing it.

Traveler - it takes about 10 minutes to pull the tank off, iffen you have to look for your sockets. Two bolts (one 8mm, one 10mm socket/wrench), a vacuum line (if you have the stock petcock) and a fuel line, and badda-bing, it's off. Of course, the more gas you run out of it, the lighter it is. If you have an interstate, it has the fuel gauge sender unit, so that's a connector. Not much to it, at all.

While under there, it's a simple thing to change the air cleaner - and check all your vacuum lines, etc, that you can get to.

Alph - I believe they can see you coming....AND going!!

I mounted PODS and Bars on mine in various locations pointing toward the engine etc.  Could use some more, or something under the tank (if I get the urge to do it).   I do have two individual bulbs on the edge of the shield between fairing and shield (one on each end) to light up the shield and a few inside the the headlight area to illuminate that,  a pod pointing down under the trunk, a bar point down toward the rad cover.

Here is one view.... an early evening pic

And here is another.... in a lit garage

I don't have any under the tank yet. With speakers, LED's and GPS wiring, I'm running out of storage room under my seat for more wires  Undecided

Must be catching on, I've now seen two or three Harley's around here, all lit up.  Usually, just the riders are.

that is funny!!  ;Dyou have to know when to say enough!! the only LED's i plan on putting on my cycle now are for the turn signals.   i have a friend that's got a goldwing with over 300LED's onit!!  but back to the original question....  i found my LED's on ebay.  type in LED strips, or lights and you'll get a slue of "chineese" companies selling 'em!!  be carefull though, there is a lot of truth to the "you get what you paid for" statement!!  i believe that LED's is the quiet reply to "loud pipe saves lives" where "bright lights save lives!!"
