Does anyone know if there's any difference when installing the Velocity Stacks with an Interstate gas tank?

I know the IS tank is a slight bit wider. I haven't mounted the tank yet and figured that I'd put the velocity stacks on first being I have some much room available with the tank off. But I'd hate to go through all the work to find out that the IS tank would have clearance problems afterwards.

http://bigbf.com/bigbf_shop/custom_i-s_pod_v-stacks/

This is the link to BigBF's installation picture guide on an Intertate. He nibbles away some material on the pods for clearance and pulls the pods out a bit. I read that someone else had nibbled the stacks themselves and it wasn't visible to the eye when done. I'm thinking about nibbling away material on the v-stacks instead but I'm still on the fence on this.  In any case the tank has to be raised in the front. You can just barely see BigBF's spacer in place in the next to last photo in his step-by-step album.

I already have BigBf's spacer.

I just wanted to know if there were any other issues installing the velocity Stacks on a standard with an Interstate tank.

BigBf's instructions are titled for a Standard or Tourer. I don't have the pods to deal with like the regular Interstates.

The one that I was referring you to is titled "Custom Interstate POD or Radiator side Cover for V-Stacks 4/8/03" where he is installing the stacks on an Interstate. I understand that you don't have the pods but he does have the tank raised.

Right!

I plan to raise the tank using his spacer. I was just concerned about the slight increase in the width of the IS tank over the standard/tourer.

And,,, maybe I'm missing something here. Isn't his spacer also needed for the standard/tourer tanks???? Or only the Interstate tank.

An email to BigBF would clear this up for sure. I think you need it for all Valks and once done the clearance problems are solved for the standard/tourer and Interstate.

I just finished the V-stack installation on an I/S, I made a 1/2 inch spacer for the front of the tank and everything fit fine, no other issues. The one V-stack only clears the tank by about 1/8 inch but that seems to be good enough.

I have velocity stacks on my standard. When I put my Interstate tank on my Standard there were no issues with the velocity stacks. As long as ya put the tank spacer on in the front you are good to go.  cooldude

Just finished installing them. Putting the velocity stack on was easy. Putting the new IS tank on was a royal PIA! My hands are too damn big to get in there and set those hoses. I also put the quick disconnect fuel hose on and it seems to be more of a problem than it's worth due to the limited space under there. It's really bent quite a bit.  Hope it isn't kinked!

By the way, thanks to everyone who answered this thread! The IS tank fits perfectly with the spacer as you all mentioned.
