On my petcock when I turn it on fuel it  wont stay put. It will move to off or reserve.  Now is there a easy fix for this?

Internally the valve has a spring and detents which should prevent this from happening. I'd guess that the spring has broken and you need a new petcock.

It sounds like there is an alignment problem with the two. Make sure the petcock is at the correct angle for the knob and the screw holding the knob is not overtightened.  The assembly holding the weight of the knob should also be looked at to be sure it is not part of the problem.

Either that, or the screw that holds the chrome selector knob to the actual petcock shaft has come loose and the knob is freewheeling.

There is one phillips screw inside the selector lever.  Maybe it is loose and has slipped off the actual selector on the petcock.

Get a flashlight and look in the center of the control knob shaft. You'll see a philips head screw, or at least you "should" see one. Run your screwdriver in there and see if that screw is snug, not super tight. The shaft on the petcock the knob fits on has a flat area that is supposed match the internal shape of the plastic shaft in back of the control knob. If the screw was loose, it may have slipped off the petcock shaft, or at least just catching it partially. Just fiddle with the knob, or remove it and start over. Not a big deal, one small bolt to the front of the knob and the screw in the center will remove it.

What is the situation regarding the new petcock?

Did you change it yourself?

If a shop did it,,,,,, take it back to them!
