I noticed one was cracked the other day when I pulled the seat and tank for work. I am going to get it welded, do I have to disconnect the ignition module?

Although I don't see the connection I would think that would be the recommended action since the ICM is a pretty sensitive electronic system and probably is susceptible to MRI and any other ground plane pulses/spikes that can cause damage.
ready now? stay in line! don't all jump at once!

I agree it's a good safety precaution to disconnect the ICM, or even the entire electrical sytem from the frame, but I think instead I would just pull the fender off to have that kind of work done.

That's known as the "Serk cut" around these parts.
Pull the fender.

Man, what a RIDICULOUS idea!! Get rid of parts?? Much better, to buy a new house, and keep the old, JUST for parts! Then you can buy even more!!

I feel the drivers backrest is the main culprit for the demise of the mount.
It wasn't designed for those kind of forces that a backrest applies.

I agree. Worse if you take off the pillion seat. We call it the "Serk Cut" because Serk, the 9 foot tall guy, removed the pillion seat and promptly made this "mod". With the pillion seat on it lasts much longer...I have the pillion seat and it holds up well. That said, I've done the "Serk Cut" twice...once when I caught a dog in the face, and again when I got rear-ended by a car.

Dan: if your playing catch the dog, it would be best to stay clear of the Valk. (lesson learned) P.S. I think this would apply to swinging a dead cat, dodge the dear, etc.

Ok i'm running the drivers backrest that replaces the front bracket of the pillion seat, and now i've noticed that the bracket for the rear of the drivers seat is bent( more so the fender is bent where it attaches) is this from the backrest?

That would make me think so, but you're in a better position to tell if it's so! ***
