RIDIN THE DRAGON'S TAIL IN NOVEMBER!

Margate, Florida

« on: August 09, 2011, 06:22:43 PM »

Greetings!
I need to know if I will be able to remove the rear tire on my 2000 IS while it is up on a CENTER STAND? (I have a RIVCO CS) The CS lifts the rear wheel about 3 or 4 inches off the ground when deployed. I will be removing the rear fender (half) anyway for a tail light project (THANKS X_RING !)  cooldude and a spline/u-joint service call. I don't have a bike lift so I'm just making sure I can do what I want without one.
Thanks all in advance.

Yes. You have to remove the rear fender segment as you stated, and the bag guard crossover if you have guards.

Pull the bags off the pans, pull the shocks, lift the swing-arm above the pipes to remove the axle (it will come out over the pans).

(should have come to Saturday tech session at Inzane! I'd have showed you!)  cooldude

Daniel, I have one comment to add to your great tech session I found this morning.

You mentioned that the dampers need no lube, it only collects dirt if greasy. As you say in your books that I am enjoying "remember this for later".   When you was removing the wheel, you said it will not come off without the star in the wheel. The SECOND reason to not lube the dampers is they will not stay in the wheel if slippery !!! I had to remove pumpkin and shaft with wheel.

Thanks to Daniel, I shoulld have this down next time.

What size is the allen in the axle? 7.5mm ?

I just removed my rear tire. The plate stayed in the hub.  I don't know if it is supposed to be there but on the bottom of the rear end there was a slot.  I stuck a screw driver in and popped the plate out into the wheel.

Not a half size. Pretty sure it's an 8.

Exactly what it's there for! Smiley

It's an 8mm hex. Mine wouldn't work, but it looks like someone used a metalic hammer to set it at one time, and the 8mm won't work anymore. Out comes the Dremmel to rescue the rear end.

I was able to salvage mine with one or two small files and a lot of patience. The P O or the stealer probably never heard of plastic or aluminum hammers. uglystupid2 Or a steel or iron hammer and a block of wood. tickedoff Guess some folks just don't care iffin they get a might behind and wanna speed things up. Old mechanic told me a long time ago-if ya ain't got time to do it right-when ya gonna find time to do it over. crazy2 RIDE SAFE.
