When applying gas bike makes a clunk and when backing off gas bike makes clunk. You can feel it in your feet when this happens. Is this the u joint you here about or is it something else. Bike has 75000 miles on it. Any info would be great.

I'd start with the rear wheel dampers. If they've never been replaced, you're certainly due for new ones. As they wear, they allow some space between the dampers and wheel, which can create the symptoms you're describing. This would a good, cheap place to start.

When mine started doing that, it was the driveline splines and pinion cup.  They were TOAST!

Follow Nitros advice.  Pull the wheel, check the dampers for wear.  Then, remove the driveline, and check it out.  If still nothing, pull the u-joint and look at it.

I'll bet a serious clunk accelerating and decelerating is the Ujoint.  You might want to consider getting on the list for a new one with HDL for 60 some bux.  They are 30-60 days backordered, at a minimum. (And I bet this list is getting longer as we speak now that they are back in the pipeline)

I think the list is getting whittled down pretty well by now. I ordered one in January of this year. It was delivered yesterday.

I ordered mine two days ago (HDL), and was told there was still a list, and I could hope to get one in 30-60 days at the end of the list.  Just passing it along.

I think the others are likely on target.

BUT

Do yourself a favor and check the rear shock bushings.  Mine were bad and "clunking" a little.  It takes about 5 seconds total, and nothing has to be disassembled (to check.)  If you can see any of the black bushing, then the bushing is worn out.

It really depends upon how long you've been riding the bike.

If it is new to you, the "clunk" may simply be the slack that is naturally in the complete driveline.

Loading and unloading the driveline by way of the throttle will most always create what you describe.

It will be more noticeable at slower speeds in higher gears.

I'm not trying to say to not be concerned but most all the replies are not talking about a bike stopping event.

The only real consideration would be a going bad universal joint which can be fairly easily checked by removing the foot brake assembly w/reservoir and pulling back the rubber boot to reveal the joint. You should be especially careful to replace the rubber boot completely to avoid water from gaining access to the internals of the swingarm.

Interesting, after being told a few days ago it would be 30-60 days, my new U-joint was in the mailbox today ($64) (but not the three filters that were ordered with it).  Must have shipped the day of or after the order.
