My valk will not start.  tickedoff
When I turn on the ignition all of my idiot lights and tail lights come on, but the head light does not.
When I depress the starter button nothing happens.
I had my battery checked and it's good.
Going thru the manual I believe that my starter relay is bad.
 Any ideas?

if your headlights are not coming on..then it's your starter switch..not the relay.

There is a starter button clean up procedure here in tech or the shop pages one. Shop pages on the starter button cleanup. uglystupid2 Try that first. Read the directions carefully. coolsmiley Hope you get er sorted out. RIDE SAFE.

Plenty of posts on this topic whether the starter button or relay.

Yeah, like they are sayin, it's the Starter switch. Go here http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/VSGPages/starterbutton.htm for instructions on how to disassemble and clean the switch. It's actually alot easier than the instructions are letting on.
This is a common issue. I've cleaned it twice now in the last 4 years.

As far as the headlight going out, the circut runs through this switch as well. When you push the button the switch disconnects the headlight circuit and engages the Starter circuit then returns to the headlight circuit when button is released. The contacts have become dirty with use, or have worn down with use. In either case, the contacts no longer can engage either circuit so no headlight or starter. The Starter button maintainence resolves this and it takes only a few minutes.

to test your relay, bridge the two posts with a screwdriver. That connects the starter motor directly to the battery. But as others have noted, since your headlights aren't on (default position), it's probably the starter button.

This thread just saved me from having to do the switch maint (for now, but I do need to do it)

I havent started the Valk in a month ( or two?), had some time so I pulled the cover and went to start her. Spun over just fine but wouldnt catch. About the 7th time she almost fired and on the 8th nothing.... I just knew it was the switch. I turned i off and waited and tried again several times, but nothing. I put the cover back on and came inside to look up the switch maint. Instead of searching right way I looked at the current tech stuff going on.

And in here I found it. Check the headlight to confirm that I need to do the switch maint. Key turned on and the headlights were bright as anything, so I hit the started switch and viola, she spins and caught right away  cooldude

If not for this thread I would have been doing thee switch maint in our lovely "feels like 105" heat so I could beat the afternoon thunderstorms. *no garage*

Thanks !

Just like you all told me, it was the starter button.
I had an issue finding the right height for the 2 contacts on the slide.
They were either too low to make contact or too high and would get caught and not spring back out.
I repeated the procedure a lot until I got the button moving smoothly.
I thank each of you for your input and knowledge.
My wife and I went for a nice ride this morning.
