I read somewhere that the Interstate fuel tank will install on my "01 standard.  Are there any problems doing this?  Do the risers need to be changed?  Any other issues before I buy the tank?
  Thanks for your help.

Only issue is if your new tank doesn't have a fuel sender you will need to get one or cap it (somebody makes a cover kit for that too).

Risers/etc are fine. You'll have to mash the seat on pretty good for a bit...till it forms to the new profile.

I think the hardest problem is locating an Interstate tank for sale.

The hardest part is convincing your wife that you need to spend that kind of money to get another gallon and a half of gas.    uglystupid2

Later on, you begin to wonder why you didn't buy an Interstate to begin with. I bought my 99 std back in the early spring of 2000 because I couldn't afford an Interstate and before you know it I had spent far more than the difference between the two and it never seems to end. Now I want a Woody's fairing and...........

When I bought mine new in Feb.98, the Interstate didn't exist. Wouldn't have bought it anyway cuz I don't like all the tuperware. Now I've only been looking at Interstates in the classifieds! Cool

I have an IS tank on my 07 Standard. I am wanting to add a fuel gauge.

My current sender unit appears to have has its wires cut off.

Does anyone know how I could rewire the sender to attach it to (for example) an Autometer gauge? Specifically, what gauge wires to use, and how to.

Another option is to just replace the entire unit. They are not that expensive. But my question then is this:

Normally the wires terminate in a plug that is mated to the fuel sensor unit on an IS. This is not the case on a Standard. So since that is my situation, would I be able to cut the plug off, strip the wires, and then mount them directly to the fuel gauge?

I'm thinking probably not because power has to come from somewhere right? Not being an electrical type guy, any help would be appreciated.

GL1500 Goldwings use the same fuel sender. I have a broken one installed in my I/S tank. At least that is what I was told from the guy I bought my I/S tank from many moons ago. He gave me the sender for free.
