It's hard to believe that it's already time again, but here is your personal invitation to join the DFW VRCC as we gear up for this year's DFW Ride for Kids, benefiting the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation!  It's a great reason to ride, have some fun, see and meet a bunch of great folks, help kids with brain tumors, and raise much-needed research funding!  (You can help even if you can't be at the ride.)

I'd like to encourage all of you to join the DFW Valkyrie Riders Team to help with our fundraising efforts.  All you have to do is go to our team page, http://www.firstgiving.com/process/teamarea/default.asp?did=1335&teamid=152953, and click on "join this team".  It just takes a few minutes to set up your own free site and start getting donations from your friends and relatives in your e-mail directory.  The motorcycle club with the most donations this year will lead the ride next year - just behind the "Stars".  With a little work, we should be able to move up from our second place position last year to the first place riders club!

The event page, http://www.pbtfus.org/rideforkids/events/2011/dallas-fortworth.html, will have more information including the "host hotel" information for those of you coming in from out of town.  It's always fun when we all get together for dinner Saturday evening!

The DFW VRCC was the top club in 2007, and with your help, we will be again this year.   cooldude

This video really is worth your time! Bayleigh totally reset my aim as she shares some of what she and her family have been thru and how FUN it is to hang with you bad a$$ bikers! Let's help these kids and "do it in a fun way" as Bayleigh gets across so well in this latest, best ever video.

!

This is a very well organized, family friendly event! All brands of bikes welcome. If you think you might want to help as a "Day of Event Volunteer" just let us know, dfwride4kids@me.com. We need sidecars, trikes and bikes to take the "Stars" on the ride. Anybody recognize the pilot of that sidecar in the header of the video? ~Jeff

I am planning on the R4K in the North Country. Probably leaving on Friday, make a trip out of it, want to eat some BBQ at Cooper's in Llano.

Looks like you might have some company on a Friday ride up if you folks get organized. Frank, aka "Spoiler", usually comes up on Friday. HayHauler is talking about a Friday ride up too. Maris?

This is the note that went out today to the locals and some of the usual out of town suspects... I hope you will consider this an update to your personal invitation whether you come up early enough to make the Saturday 10am volunteer training, or are going to be here early enough to do dinner with the group Saturday evening. Here you go... ~Jeff

Thanks to all the volunteers, past, present, and future that make the DFW ride successful year after year! We are asking for you to help us help kids with brain tumors again this year.

Only ten days until our ninth annual Ride for Kids, Sunday October 2rd! We are an all volunteer army with over 70 job descriptions to be filled in order for our ride to be everyone's best experience in a charity ride this year. Please come out and help us help the kids!

"Day of Event Volunteers" include riders as well as motorcycle friendly non riders. You may volunteer and still do the ride. Each volunteer needs to attend a short training session. You have two training dates from which to choose - Thursday evening, Sept. 29th, 7:30pm, or Saturday morning, Oct.1st, 10am. Training will take no more than an hour and a half. Both meetings are held at the host hotel, Springhill Suites Grapevine, 2240 W. Grapevine Mills Circle, Grapevine, TX 76051. Arrive early to sign in and get your free t-shirt to help us keep you on schedule if you can.

Would you please send an email to dfwride4kids(take this out)@me.com and let us know what size volunteer t-shirt you would like and which training session you plan to attend?  It's ok if the training session you attend changes as we're just trying to get a headcount for each training meeting. This does not apply to those signed up to volunteer as motorcycle escorts and parking volunteers. They have already been accounted for. Patient/Family volunteer training is Thursday evening at 7:30pm only.

If you are attending the Saturday training and you are able to stick around for about 45 minutes to help stuff lunch bags we would sure appreciate the help. No hair nets required. The big payoff will be one of George's cookies to taste test!

In that same grass roots volunteer spirit we would ask you to please bring someone that has not been to a Ride for Kids and the Celebration of Life before. This is absolutely the best way to ensure we are increasing the awareness of kids with brain tumors as well as growing our event year after year. If you have friends or family that don't want to do the group ride with our local brain tumor "Stars" we would like to extend an invitation for them to join us around 11:15am to watch the kids and the motorcyclist return and experience the Celebration of Life. This program gives our "Stars" the opportunity to thank you personally for helping them!

Here is a link to an electronic poster we would encourage you to pass along to others...
http://jlphotos.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/Ride-For-Kids/i-sK67Xt7/0/L/R4KDFWPoster2011-L.jpg

Thanks so much for stepping up to help these kids and their families fight the good fight against brain tumors. If you can't bring your friends, bring their donations to support the kids! And as always, please forward this note along to anyone that might have an interest in volunteering and/or doing the ride. We look forward to seeing you soon!

No clue on the location for Sat dinner, but it will be close to Grapevine Mills.  For those interested, stay in touch with Spoiler or Wanderer on Sat afternoon.  I'm usually clueless on where and when until I get there.

I hope Love 'n War in Texas suits you, Liz? Their varied menu and their ability to seat and serve large parties and walking distance to the hotel for riders that want to stay off the bike after bending an elbow makes it seem like the right place to get together. As for a time, I am going to guess 6ish, but we will know for sure once we have an eta on the late leaving Houston folks.

Looks like we should have a good turn out just from all the out of towners! How many of you local Volks are planning on joining us? The more the merrier!!! ~Jeff

Yea, we should meet somewhere close and ride in together.

Dallas area guys, where would be a good place?  Like a gas station/convenience store.

There is a Shell station right across the freeway from the mall at 121 & Bethel/Bass Pro that shares a parking lot with a hotel. Plenty of room in that lot.

We could also meet in the Embassy Suites/Whataburger/Bass Pro/Big Racks parking lot down the street from the mall. It's at the opposite corner of the Shell station just across the bridge.

Great to see the Valk club back on top once again as Top Motorcycle Club! Congratulations, Volks!!! That means you guys and gals get to ride right behind the "Stars" in next year's ride! I hope everyone will save the date - the first Sunday in October next year, October 7th. It sure would be good to have a long line of Valks riding in together!

A special Thank You to all who helped to make our ninth DFW Ride for Kids a LARGE success and a great party for kids of all ages!

Right after Disco, Jimmy!

Just call me Lucky Latimer! Actually, very fortunate in sooo many ways! There was a third bike, the DN-01, won with the ticket passed along to Judy (center of photo) last year at the Lafayette R4K. Her hubby, Steve (left in photo) is still thanking me for costing him so much in taxes for the "free" bike!

This is Ronnie's (camera right, owner of NorthWest Honda of Houston) latest project, a 1970 CB750 with Tracy body works - taken at the host hotel Saturday evening. Gets about 67 miles between fuel stops, and he rode her from Houston! As great as my photo is, she is sooo musch better in person. Stop by and check her out in person when you get a chance! Absolutely amazing rolling art! ~Jeff
