I got this email today from a guy I have never heard of.......dont know this guy from Adam........are there really people that would do this??  Must be or these stratgegies wouldnt continue.....Sheesh  Shocked  uglystupid2

My sincere regrets for this sudden request, things actually got out of control
on my trip to Madrid,Spain . I was mugged, all my belongings including cell

phone and credit card were all stolen at gun point. I need your help flying back
home.

Am cash strapped at the moment. I've made contact with my bank but the best
they could do was to send me a new card in the mail which will take 2-5 working
days to arrive here. I need you to lend me some money to sort my self out of this
predicament, i will pay back once i make it out of Madrid.

Western union or moneygram is the fastest option to wire funds to me. Let me
know if you need my details(Full names/location) to effect a transfer. You can
reach me via email or hotel's desk phone and  the number is,+349463916637

This scam has been going around for quite some time, in many flavors.  A common one is to call elderly people and pretend to be a grandchild.  They tell "Granny" that they are stuck in a foreign country without money due to some tragedy.  They ask for a Western Union transfer or some other hard to trace money transfer.  The email version is easy and cheap.  Maybe they hope a few out of millions of emails will come through...

Toooo funny! How much are you sending?

Too bad they didn't have email in the early 70's when I was ...ahem ... stranded in Europe. Had to call. Even my dad told me to piss off and fend for myself. Should've called strangers, like in this email.

Yes, people fall for this.

My wife's email got hacked and they sent these messages out in her name, but she was stuck in Wales.  Got lots of phone calls and emails.  A few sent a message saying they couldn't send money now because they were strapped but would try to do something when they could.  Found this out after I got back control of the email account.

you asked the question, but you know the answer.

the generosity of the people in the U.S.A is well documented all over. because we respond to actual emergencies some in the world think we are just huge saps.

I bet this originated in an english speak country.

Thank goodness you included his contact info. I couldnt imagine the horror of being stuck in a ferrin country with no friends and being robbed. I'm sure he'll reimburse me just as soon as he gets back home.
NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Darkmeister, Same here. I called Dad and said I was cold, hungry and needed to come home.
He agreed, said get workin, and hung up the phone.
That, my friends, was one of the best things he ever said to me.
