Trying to identify a rubber part. Just back from 5000 mile ride and trying to clean up bike some. Lots of roads, some dirt and rock (got lost), some oil and gravel. Will have to take off bags and tank to be more thorough, but got most of the grime off. Had to sort of pry off caked on crap from engine bottom, oil filter and water pump with screwdriver. While washing today, trying to clean under engine, etc. i found this rubber cover/sealer (or whatever it is ???) on ground on right side of engine. Anyone tell me what it is from? It was intact when I found it , but old rubber broke with handling. Slightly larger diameter on one side than other. Sort of scalloped on inside. This is the inside of rubber part when pulled open. this is a pic of the outside. Sort of scalloped also. i know someone can look at pic and know what it is right away. Help a feller out.

It resembles the grommet in the bracket that holds my exhaust in place near the rear. Other then that, no idea.
Edit: Didn't see the part where you said you found it intact. Wouldn't be the grommet then.

looks like something that either got picked up on the road, or fell off someones car and rolled up under your bike.
i have had the valk down to its underwear and never seen anything looked like that.

This is a shot in the dark, but it looks to me like one of the straps that wraps around the frame under the gas tank. The straps are located wrapped around the frame under the front part of the gas tank. They have a ribbed texture on them too.
Here's the part I'm referring to:
CUSHION, FUEL TANK 17611-MZ0-000

it's not big enough to be the strap under the gas tank.

son of a pup is it familiar! it seems to be part of a knob you would twist and that is the grip for better traction for your fingers. i'm sure thats what it is.... it's just in the fog at the edge of my minds eye.

I suggested it may be that part because if it broke off, it could be a lot smaller than the original part. The ribbing looks the same. All thast needs to be done is look under the gas tank and see if the cushions are both there. If one or both are missing....mystery may be solved.

the rubber part you show is not a strap, there is no strap under the tank-the bumper is a curved piece made of rubber and ribbed, not dimpled

It is definitely not the tank cushion. I had tank off just before trip to replace air cleaner and the cushions were fine. This piece is circular and intact before i broke it trying to figure out what it was. Cushions are thicker than the circular piece i found and seem ribbed on one side and flat on the other, different from what I found. I am now leaning to roadway trash that got stuck somewhere under bike and came off as I washed. Unless . . . someone knows better. Will look around good though when I take off bags and tank. Time for oil change, new brake pads and probably new brake fluid if I change pads so i can look around good. Thanks for suggestions though. son of a pup is it familiar! it seems to be part of a knob you would twist and that is the grip for better traction for your fingers. i'm sure thats what it is.... it's just in the fog at the edge of my minds eye.
Maybe i will try to open a few twist tops using the rubber part to grip better. might be just the thing.

Like Harleys.... If a part falls off and the bike still runs, ya didn't need it anyhow...
