I've always thought that 'lunatics' are just a figment of fertile human imagination. now I hear that there really is a rise in strange/unlawful activity on a full moon.  also of interest animal attacks go up 58% on the nights of a full moon.

any law enforcement officers want to chime in on this one? or perhaps our EMT extordinaire.

I haven't seen the data myself and I'm going to go look for it. what do you think?

reading some info on some peoples belief that 'the full moon' exerts more gravity on them then at other times of the month.

the moon over head whether new or full exerts the same gravitational  force as any other phaze crazy2

I'm thinking maybe there is more crime during a full moon because there is better lighting to perp under.? maybe.....

I was a Fireman/Paramedic for 28 years here in Florida. We actually ran stats for a 20 year period and EMS calls rose by 9% during the days preceding and following a full moon. no real "type" of call increase just more calls. I know of other agencies, FD, PD and EMS who have done similar calculations and they all show a small increase.

I am in IT and I can tell when there is a full moon by the number of "where is the any key" calls and other weird happenings.  Been that way for the 20 years I have been in the business.

There is another 28 day cycle that is more well known for driving the human race a little batty.

I spent 26 years as a cop, 17 years working midnights (which I loved) and no one will ever be able to convince me that the moon does not bring out bizarre behavior.

I have no stats on it other than a noticeable rise in family fights, bar fights, mental commitments, and plain old disorderly conduct Two examples that I will never forget; a woman pissing on the sidewalk outside a bar while howling at the moon, and a local nut case walking back and forth on the counter of the local 24 hours greasy spoon restaurant preaching from the bible)

My wife is a pharmacist and swears it's true. In my own experience I believe it to be true as well.

That said, I disagree with the reasoning commonly attributed to it. I've heard all kinds of cockamamie theories about the moons gravity affecting the chemical imbalance in the brain. That makes no sense for a number of reasons. I believe that it's a psychosomatic condition brought on by the fact that deep down we're all still largely animals and the full moon is a primal motivator.

I'm in the news biz...and the full moon certainly does seem to bring out the weirdness.

See it myself riding too.

Anvil said something about us being animals and that it is primal motivator.   There is something a little deeper that could possibly come into play.
The moon has an important impact on our tides and we, as humans, are largely made up of water... i've always realized that the full moon brings out a change in us at times... and i thought that would be one of the factors if not the major factor. coolsmiley

When the moon is new or full, the sun, moon, and Earth are aligned, making tides the greatest at these times.

In the '70s I was a psychiatric tech at a locked ward on the grounds of the South Dakota Human Service Center, Yankton, SD.  Then I was a vocational counselor with the State of SD.  Later I was a Fire Fighter/Medic in Rapid City, SD.  All the talk about full moon stuff is true.

See, that's the part of it I don't buy. The moon's gravity is always in effect on earth, just that sometimes it's pulling you to earth and sometimes pulling away or to the side. But then could you not alleviate the full moon symptoms if you simple turned the other way? Is what I'm saying making any sense?

I mean I could be wrong about that but it just seems that if it's gravity related then it wouldn't necessarily be the moon's fullness in the sky but rather, it's position in relation to the earth. But we are a species that at one time worshiped that big cold lamp. We still suffer primal fear of certain animals (snakes for instance) so we know that some of these things carried over from primitive man.

yeahbut!  if moon overhead is new OR full the gravitational pull is the same. the psychological pull is different apparently Cheesy

See that's funny, I like spiders. But it's only because I've developed an appreciation for their usefulness and cunning. Snakes don't scare me but they make me "wary".

I run like a bitch when I see hornets and wasps though. F**kin hate em.
