Earned my flying certificate on my way to work today.  It certainly wasn’t the way I thought I would however.  Beginning my left turn at the freeway entrance, green light.  Halfway into the turn a vehicle heading in the opposite direction runs the red light,  How the *&%$ did that happen…..The cage in front of me slams on his brakes to avoid the collision, I veer right but catch my left engine guard and timing cover on his right rear quarter panel.  The impact is quick and I’m now up and completing a flip over the left side of my shield.  Smacked my helmet on the car and ended up on my back.  Had to lay there and think about that one for a couple of minutes before getting up.  Remembered to thank the Lord.  No broken bones but I’m sore enough to be reminded that not only did I let my guard down, I stupidly didn’t allow enough travel distance between me and the cage in front of me…. and now I get to spend $$$ for parts I didn’t need.  You like to think that with experience and age comes wisdom, unfortunately I can vouch that's not always the case.

Last time I fell off in the road (1971) (huge gas/diesel spill), I slid about 50 feet thru an intersection on my back.  As I came to a halt, I just lay there for a couple seconds thinking 'wow, I think I'm OK.'  While all other traffic had stopped, a lady in a big Cadillac came right on thru the intersection, and I watched as her front right tire came to a screeching stop about 18" from my head. This only took a second or two.......... having survived the fall and slide, I was pretty good except a bruised hip, but in the seconds after I stopped sliding I was inches from having my head run over, I then got the uncontrollable shakes and may have peed a little.

Moral:  Having survived a fall in traffic, get the hell up as quickly as possible... if you can.

WOW! Hate to hear about the crack up. Glad you're OK. I'll take it as a personal reminder to keep my eyes and closing distances open.

ValkFlyer-damn glad your still here and talking to us. Your not the only one to realize this could have gone the other way. Glad it didn't and thank GOD your fine. Well except for the bruises and ego thingy. I learned a lesson from your mishap. So that there is a good thing??right?? RIDE SAFE Bro.

Well damage appears minimal, timing cover dented and dislodged, road rash to crash bars, bent handlebars and left grip.  Looks like the force of the impact has somehow dislodged my water pump, it's leaking a little.  The radiator cover is dislodged and hopefully that's not a sign of something more significant.  Could have been far worse.

Thanks for sharing that Flyer. Great reminder for us all. I nearly rear ended a car the other day by looking left while going forward thinking the car in front was too. He wasn't..I looked back at the last second..Gently tapped his bumper. We all get complacent sometimes. Glad it's only bruises.

Glad to hear you're ok. May want to check under the valve cover, and check to see if the head is still exactly where Honda put it. A friend got in an argument in a ditch with a tree stump with his 1500 wing and found after many issues that he had shifted the head. Bent head bolts, cracked cam sprocket.  Just worth lookin at.....maybe save some headaches later.
