Saw John Schmidts Reagan joke post & obviously I got there after it was locked. After reading it I was left with one observation that I would like to see cleared up. The spending graph that was posted I had seen before but... I would like to see that same graph with one change, at the bottom put what party controlled the Congress year to year instead of who was Prez. I would like to see if maybe a slightly different conclusion could be drawn with the same numbers. No criticism of anybody's point of view, just want to point out how misleading charts & graphs {statistics} can be. Oh, I rode 100+ miles today & got to see Terry {Thunderbolt} at the Starke Bikefest in N.E. Florida. Nice warm, late summer in Florida ride.

Eddie, it was below 90 around here today so was wondering if you kept warm. Don't worry folks, it's an ongoing inside joke. I don't like to ride when it's over 90 degrees, or play golf when not at least in the 70's. Guess I get to play golf a few more years. Old joke! As for the chart, yes Eddie...I agree. You know me, I wasn't interested in anything but the humor so wasn't going to respond anymore. As much as possible these days, I try to find the humor in most situations. And if one directs their attention toward either Tallhassee or D.C., there's plenty of fodder for jokes. One of my favorite lines is from a fellow State employee over 30 yrs. ago; "well, looks like Tallhassee is putting out fires with gasoline again." See ya down the road....soon I hope.

also correlate the spending with wars or the ending of the cold war by outspending them on defense. Regan made the world a safer place.

What the graph doesn't tell you is that the Republican's "contract with America" was largely responsible for "Clinton's record" on spending. This effort, lead by Newt Gingrich, included (among other things) welfare reform, and capital gains changes and efforts the slow the increase in gov't spending. The promise to slow government spending conflicted with the president's agenda for Medicare, education, the environment and public health, leading eventually to a temporary shutdown of the U.S. federal government.
So I'm always very amused when Dem's tout Clinton"s record on spending when he in fact fought fiscal responsibility with vetoes and a gov't shutdown. He was in fact coerced into spending restraint by the opposing party.

I'm with ya John as I definitely know you! There is a lot of over-reaction around here these days & just because someone throws up a neat looking chart or graph does NOT mean the whole truth is exposed. The success of liberalism depends a lot on misdirection & subject changing. You do notice the resident libs on board here are real fond of showing Republican blame, the old scorekeeping game, while completely ignoring the hard truths that are coming to ALL of us. Real conservatives have been VERY disappointed in the wishy washy candidates that call themselves Repubs in the past. Considering the Dem alternatives however has NOT been an option. Proof is what we have now. It truly has been voting for the lesser of two evils for quite a while.

We are now a debter nation.
Our lifestyle cannot be sustained.
When most of the manufacturing takes place elswhere.
Energy costs are high.
It is the fault of whoever made all the stupid regs and taxes that drove the manufacturing out of this country.
Until we start manufacturing here again.
Our standard of living will go down, like a snowball headed for hell.
Obama and the Dems are just trying to stay in power, becuase they know too well that given the chance the Repubs will quell the spending
and that means belt tightening and Dems in power no more.
A dependancy state is what the Dems. want, keep us begging for more and them being the ones handing it out for votes.
They could care less about the strength of the Republic.
Just like any banana republic, the leader just wants to be on top and to hell with the rest of his countryman.

truth, spending the same as G.W. did in 1/3 the time. putting out a budget that even his whole party voted against.has not created jobs that he promised.gave us a health care bill that was suposed to be deficit neutral and they only includede the primary card holder and none of the family members in scoring it. wtf..... now it is going to cost an additional 1/2 a trillion bucks...... that is the truth.... you can keep the change....
