I found an elevation window on the Compass screen, but I'd like a tab with that info on the route screen....like on the 2610.....to keep from having to move between screen windows....

Do you have the Instruction CD?

Not to say it is not possible, but I have tried every way I can to get it onto the nav screen and cannot.  I will be following this thread....  BTW, I popped my SQUARE button off on the Inzane trip toggling over to the compass page to see the elevation.

I found the quick start instruction page and it just shows touching the top left corner of the screen in route mode and it'll throw the compass window up...may be as good as it will get?...... Sad

Same for the SQUARE hard button on the left.  But you're right, that may be as good as it gets....  Sad

I don't have a 550 but most of the Nuvi series operate in a similar manner....

Try pressing the tab to the right of Menu at bottom of screen...should give you the option to change it to elevation.

Owner's manuals are available for download from Garmin...

https://buy.garmin.com/support/manuals/manuals.htm?partNo=010-00700-01

Also up date your unit operating software....

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downloadsUpdates.jsp?product=010-00700-01&cID=134&pID=27442

Pressing the tab should give you options

Another option you may be interested in....raw track recording...a hidden feature in many Nuvi models

Ok.......Thanks.....I wish they would let you have several tabs on the right side like the old 2610's do..... Sad.......I gave Scooter my old 2610 since he couldn't find his butt with both hands......... Cheesy Cheesy
