Probably the biggest consideration is if you want to do all the work necessary such as changing the cables, hydraulic lines and electrical wiring.

If you prefer to try and stay with everything you already have, you will be severely limited in what you can actually do.

Mostly those that do the limited change are restricted to aftermarket risers in the four to five inch range which would still involve rerouting the throttle cables.

The risers I just tool off Eddie's new (to him) Valk were 6 inches, maybe longer. The PO did nothing more than reroute the throttle cables behind the triple tree instead of in front of it.

They were nice chrome risers too and he may be looking to get rid of them. If you're interested I'll ask him to bring em along tomorrow night and I'll put up some pics and specs.

I put Aeromach risers on my bike, they're quite a bit different than what came on there, but I think
the ones that were on there were cut down... no need for different cables or brake lines...

It would pay to be picky about how stout the ones you get are... Daniel Meyer's bars almost
came off in his hands because of some cracked risers...

I was looking at BigBF's 6" rise  with a 2" pull back, he advertised them on the Classifieds .
He assured me that I can use stock cables and lines, just re-route them. Anybody got experience with them?

I have BigBF's risers and they are great.  Yes, all you have to do is re-route the cables and reverse a couple of the handlebar cable holders.  I bought them right after one of my Zoom 5" risers BROKE IN HALF as I was riding....DO NOT BUY ZOOM RISERS!!!

I have the Aeromach/Lamonster risers like Hubcap's on my '97 & I love them. They were already on the bike when I bought it. They do use stock length cables, I broke a throttle cable a few months back & the replacement stock cables fit perfect.
When I started to fix up the new to me '99 I wanted to get the same feel as the '97 w/out spending too much $$. I bought these riser extensions through E-Bay for $49 & they seem to have the same  or very close pull back & rise as the Aeromach/Lamonsters do. cooldude

I'm glad someone asked that question. I have some 5 1/4" risers and wanted to be sure they would work without changing cables. I know I'll have to reroute. Wink

Here's a riser comparison.....

http://www.timskelton.com/valkyrie/how_to/risers.htm

The risers BigBF sells are the Harley Davidson style risers from a HD Deuce.  He cuts off the bottom so they'll fit the Valk.  That's a nice service since not everyone has access to the tools to do that.  Buy his and install.....couldn't be easier.

Just you know, you can remove the kill switch from the upper half of the switchgear housing (two small screws) loosen the headlight bracket and slide the throttle assembly while still attached to the starter/cable portion between the fork tube and headlight so you don't have to disconnect the cables from the throttle tube which may be tough to do if the cables are tight as they were with my buddy Eddie's bike.
