I don't mind Obama after we elected Bush for 2 terms. my opinion.
so you're the one it's working out for. I wouldn't cross the street for this one. I cringe just imagining if I was in the service and had any presidential duties of my personal pride and morals I would have to hide to show respect to him, training would have to take over. Even with Clinton's impeachment and immoral actions I respect him, didn't like most of his actions. And I'll bet you have no rational basis for those feelings. him and thousands and thousands of others share those feelings.......Dont worry the koolaid will eventually wear off I AM THINKIN YOU MEANT MILLLLIONS Am I supposed to be impressed that millions and millions of people are irrational?

I'm reading this stuff, as usual, from the somewhat left side of the screen. So first of all: NASCAR? Really? Pretty self-explanatory... The current chasm, seemingly unbridgeable, is so extreme it seems hopeless. It's already impacting the country as a whole and there's more to come. I've admired Mr. Obama for his attempts to find middle ground and move things forward. Having said that, the sheen is wearing off for many supporters. The endless capitulation stopped looking like diplomacy some time ago. Budget ceiling. Job speech timing in Congress. The latest EPA issue. The list is long. One of my all-time favorite political cartoonists is Ben Sargent; I follow him on Yahoo News - Comics. One of his recent cartoons really sums it up regarding the view of Mr. Obama from the 'left side of the screen':

Hey Dennis
You mean they dont come to your house and pick you up in one of those tahoes with the roof mounted gattling guns
Yes I would still go if asked by any sitting President. You are a former Nascar rider as I recall, ever get an invite?
Now I would not pose with say.... Jane Fonda, or Pelosi, or Carter, but I would still go if called
You ever pull the trigger on that new house?
Post a pic of the painted valk as a signature avatar will ya? Best to Starlene

How does the Obama’s crack team of "intellectuals and saintly defenders of all knowledge," issue a public ‘reelection promotional’ invitation and NOT already know the answer? And, to NASCAR drivers of all people? Are you kidding me? You’d think they’d have their endangered baby polar bears all in a line first, no?
Again, no matter what side of the bed you get up on; can this Administration being anymore amateurish? Of course when you can write your own story line for the next morning news cycle, I guess it doesn’t matter much. It’s good to be king.

This is obviously about money.
If my fan base consisted of largely conservative, God fearing, gun loving, State university and High School educated folks, I wouldn't want to be seen schmozin with an unpopular Ivy league educated, Chicago political styled, screamin liberal politician.
It's about politics and image. You got it exactly right. He cares nothing for these people..... he wants a photo op and sound bite with popular nascar drivers to use for reelection. I'd rather cut off a finger than help him get reelected. Good on those boys for having conflicts with their schedule. (I would have replied that I was unavailable because I was going to be having a bowel movement at that time)

Mr. Obama screwed up.
He should have gone to the Nascar Event of his choice and met them on thier turf.
Reagan, Bush I, Bush II, and Jimmy Carter all went to the Track.
You don't summon red necks that race to the damn White House.
You go to them.
It has worked to get millions of votes for all elected officails who did it right.
Count on this present Potus to screw this up as well.
In his narsacistic usual manner, he thought they would be thrilled to come to the White House.
This ain't your daddys nascar.
These boys make a heluva lot more money than he will ever make.
For Petes Sake they are millionaires.
They call the shots now.
If you want a vote you have to get out and kiss the babies , not have the babies come out and kiss you.
He has just about everything upside down and backwards.
He would make a good King maybe. But not a good president.
He's outta there in 2012.
Unless he declares himself the Emperor, or Czar, or Socialist Party Leader.

Honestly, I'm torn. I served under every President from Nixon to Clinton. I actually resigned my commission because of what President Clinton and his congress were doing to my military. But, that's another story. It is doubtful anyone on the forum has less respect for any former or sitting President that I have for our current leader in the White House and in Congress. If the Rep Pelosi or Senator Reed were on fire and I really needed to take a whiz, I'd look for a tree before I'd put the fire out. My respect for President Obama (the man) is somewhere below that. But, if the President of the United States asked me to come to DC to meet with him, I'd most likely go. That doesn't mean there'd be any publicity pics for his re-election campaign. I assume that permission from all parties concerned must be given. If not, then I would have to make it clear prior to my arrival or I wouldn't go. That conversation would most likely mean I would be un-invited.

Anvil, it would not matter.
I know there are some fans of nascar that would and did vote for the man.
This would help solidify the base he already has and maybe win a few more million at the same time.
He thought it was important enough to bring them to the White House.
He should have reconsidered and brought the road show to them.
They would have rolled out the red carpet for the man.
For free.
He has no business sense at all so this escaped him.
Go down to the race track, eat a hot dog, wear a Nascar Tie or something.
This is basic PR and he can't make it happen.

And this is different from any Republican or Mea Party challenger HOW? But seriously, it makes no difference. Going there would be a stunt just like inviting them to track mud all over the WH was a stunt. He gains nothing my going there and loses respect in his own base by trudging around the "dirty south". Right now his base is far more important than their base. All your base are (not) belong to us.

+1 Willow! It seems I disagree with almost everyone in this thread on some point or another.
I respect the office. I find it distasteful that some seem incapable of that.
Were I to be invited to the White House (He entertains there, not at the Capitol) I would have to consider whether the primary purpose was public relations mileage. In this case it seems it may be. I'm pretty sure were I one of those gentlemen I would likewise decline.

I never said I could spell, and since I used "The White House" and the "Capitol" in the same post I guess I thought it was clear what I meant. I would normally say Capitol BUILDING if I was referring to the building.........my humble appologies for butchering the spelling in this case, however be warned, it will most certainely happen again

Why would you say that Anvil? Nascar fans really have got the basics down fairly well. They are generally god fearing, working folks who don't put on airs. What you see is what you get! They respect the flag, and the country it stands for. They are not too sophisticated to make believe they are something that they are not. The respect and reverence that eminates from a Nascar event during the playing of the National Anthem is second to none. They really do appreciate everything that our soldiers do for them. They actually even believe that saying a prayer publicly is not a bad thing. Though I was not born in the South, I can tell you that I feel the difference in general attitude when I cross the Mason-Dixon Line. Is everything perfect there? Hell no! But when it comes to understanding the basics of what is important, those folks could teach a lot of New Englanders a thing or two about traditional values. As for their fascination with constant left turns, what is the difference with that and watching a fuzzy little tennis ball back flying and forth over a net? "The POTUS didn't make any mistake here. He's not getting the vote of the NASCAR yokels and he knows it. Now the drivers just look petty (no pun intended) and talentless instead of just talentless" I don't know if any Nascar fans would vote for Obama, but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't vote for Anvil! kind of shallow to stereotype a whole group of people isn't it? maybe you could expound a little or was it really meant as a general all encompassing insult? even us rednecks can process a few simple facts.

Capital vs. Capitol - Semi off topic, but just for the halibut... The way I remember which is which, think of the round rotunda in the capitOl building... it's a circle... Like an "O"... So for the building, it's the capitol, for the city, it's capital...
Silly little mental mnemonic, but it's served me well since elementary school, figured I'd pass it on...

Great people, great food, nice weather... I mean it's not perfect and I have my issues with the place (just as southerners have issues with us Yankees) but it's not any kind of hate. And when I say "yokels" I'm not referring specifically to southerners either. I have a NASCAR oval in my own backyard that holds well attended events so we have em here too.

Cheap shot ... I didn't mean it as an insult Joe, that's why it's in quotations. I always feel that is a cop out. You insult someone, or a group of people, then say it was not meant as an insult. That is like the apology that starts with " IF I insulted you, I apologize". The correct way is to say " I am sorry. I insulted you." I find it so ironic that Progressives always claim to be of and for the common working man. Then, they go and insult NASCAR fans all the time! I think what gets to them, is the fact that NASCAR fans ARE common folks, and for the most part, are very conservative. Progressives just don't get that.

I'll try to explain this. When I put it in quotations I'm repeating something I've heard. I'm not casting that myself. In conversation it's like prefacing a remark with "as they would say". Besides which, I know it's a pejorative term in certain circles but I also know a lot of folks down there wear it like a badge. It's not an insult to everyone (just as I'm not insulted when someone calls me an intellectual).

Boxer rebellion, the Holy Child. They all pay their rent. But none together can testify to the rhythm of a road well bent. Saddles and zip codes, passports and gates, the Jones' keep. In August the water is trickling, in April it's furious deep.

You are a hard " BIRD " to figure out .... Joe something tells me that the answer to figuring this "character" out is found in your tag line: I've seen alot of people that thought they were cool , but then again Lord I've seen alot of fools. If you're gonna ignore me then ignore me. Don't pick and choose. Grow a spine.

If you're gonna ignore me then ignore me. Don't pick and choose. Grow a spine. Unfortunately if someone qoutes any of the idiotic things that you post the ignore feature doesn't work. And since you are so, "bothered" by my response to Joe then I must've hit the nail on the head. And if we ever do meet face to face, since I am one of those "Dirty Stupid Rednecks" that you loathe so much. Let's see if you still have the "Spine" to make a comment like that to my face. I'm betting that you won't. Then again, I also figure that you will never show your face at any organized VRCC event, most "Trolls" never do. You are an absolute "ass" (since it's in quotation marks it's OK) and why the Admin allows you to remain on this board when you clearly violate the "Rules of the Road" with nearly every single one of your posts I'll never understand. Now back to the PEACEFUL BLISS of the almighty IGNORE button.

I wouldn't call you a "dirty stupid redneck" because I don't feel that way about people from the south. Are there dirty stupid rednecks? Yeah there are (they're everywhere actually). But if you could read the rest of my posts you'd see some of the other things I've said too, some of the complimentary things. But your blissful ignorance has you only reading what you want to hiding in your own little world. The only button you hit is mt contempt button. If you act like a spineless jellyfish in person then you're getting called on it. I have no reason to fear you.

Best to Starlene
don't know how to post a photo here !! no on the house, bought a new 5th wheel and left it at a navy base in storage out on the west coast, that way we can go anytime we want and have a place to stay. whats up with bonnie and company ?
