Tony Stewart-Kevin Harvick-Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle all turned down The Prez Obamas invite to the capitol. They all cited scheduling conflicts. A polite way of saying we ain't interested. I knew just driving around in circles wasn't the only reason to like Nascar. Maybe-just maybe the start of a good trend?? RIDE SAFE.

I hope the next president invites those same drivers and then they accept.

Sorry Oss, I don't agree with you. I DO respect the Office of the Presidency.
However, this President has, in many ways, sullied the Office of the Presidency. I have as much respect for him as he does for the Constitutional duties of his Office.. By the way, since I no longer serve in the military, he is no longer MY commander-in-chief. According to the Constitution he is no Commander of the people, despite some opinions.
That is my opinion which I'm entitled to and I would hope that people on this board would respect my opinion.

Right on Solo1. To those that say its un-American to disrespect the (this) president I say just the opposite.....it would be un-American not to. As Solo as already mentioned.....THIS "president" has so disrespected the Constitution, the office of the President and the good of the American People that I believe it is in the highest regard for the office that we call this jerk out on his lies and misconduct until his time is ended in office either by impeachment or re-election. So out of love of country and respect of the office of the President of the United States, I cannot respect the person of Barack Obama as the leader of our nation. I wouldnt go visit him in our Capitol either.

You know, even if you don't like the guy it would be silly to turn down the opportunity to give him a piece of your mind in person (assuming you have it t spare). I've got a laundry list of crap I'd like to take Obama to task for and while I think Bush II is the kind of failure that only comes along once a century and he disrespected the office in myriad ways I would have still accepted his invitation and have had a few choice words for him (like; Mr. President what do you think of KMart?). But then I do not fear my ability to hold an intelligent conversation.
And the reality of this is, they probably don't have the time to spare. It's crunch time in NASCAR and there may be nothing more to this than it seems.

CONSPIRACY ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From the staged, canned public forums he has held, and the way he acts when on the spot, I wonder if an accident on the way home would tragically befall the opinioneer? Princess Di had the same problem. I would probably decline the invitation from the soiler of the west wing. Hair MUST be washed, after all.

I've been in Washington before, not to see the President, but for a conference and the speaker at our conference was just a Senator or Congresswoman (cant remember) All I do remember was waiting and waiting, she got ushered in and out fast, no real opportunity for more than some (seemed like pre-approved questions) and gone. Im sure for a generic invite to the White House it would be the same........quick and dirty no real interaction. At the most a handshake and a photo. In Special Forces we called those propaganda photos, never a good thing

It seems I disagree with almost everyone in this thread on some point or another.
I respect the office. I find it distasteful that some seem incapable of that.
Were I to be invited to the White House (He entertains there, not at the Capitol) I would have to consider whether the primary purpose was public relations mileage. In this case it seems it may be. I'm pretty sure were I one of those gentlemen I would likewise decline.

The White House is still in Washington DC, our nations Capitol. Carl, It wouldnt be normal if we didnt disagree. However, I cannot see on what you are at odds with the rest of us that said we wouldnt just go if invited

Sorry, Jeff, I didn't even remember yours was the post referencing the Capitol. D.C. is the nation's capital. The Capitol is where Congress meets.
It's on the blatant disrespect and use of denigrating names that I disagree. From my life and upbringing I'm unable to separate respect for the President from respect for the United States of America. To do otherwise is to say the country has one's allegiance only so long as his candidate is at the helm.
It's my perspective and I recognize that others may see it differently. I served in the United States Marine Corps during the administrations or at least a portion of the administrations of Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, James Earl Carter, and Ronald Reagan. I only voted for one of them, but I would have willing laid down my life to protect the safety of each and every one.
That's why. And that's why.

That's why. And that's why. Well, see, I too served on active duty through multiple presidents from Carter to Clinton. I too did not vote for all of the ones I served under. I went into combat under a President I didnt agree totally with. I dont think someone deserves to wear a military uniform if their allegiance to the country is based on politics. You either love America enough to go into harms way or you dont. As far as respecting this man we have here (not the office but him). Im sorry you cannot seperate respect for him from respect of our great nation...it must be very tough for you

I don't mind Obama after we elected Bush for 2 terms. my opinion.
so you're the one it's working out for. I wouldn't cross the street for this one. I cringe just imagining if I was in the service and had any presidential duties of my personal pride and morals I would have to hide to show respect to him, training would have to take over. Even with Clinton's impeachment and immoral actions I respect him, didn't like most of his actions.

and I wont eat bacon for him either I doubt that bacon is kept in this Whitehouse's kitchen, so you'd be safe Evan Seriously though, this is a good thing. I wouldn't want those dopes tracking mud through my house either. Next thing you know all your sheep are knocked up and the cheapest beer in the fridge is all gone. like thats a bad thing

yes anvil When you are face to face there are things you can say, either out loud or a whisper that you KNOW will be heard by your opponent, or your friend My respect is for the office not the man, but since he holds the office NOW, I would not turn down a chance to go and speak with him MP must be in the field as he would be saying that the white house should take inventory of their refrigerators after I left right Mel? SORRY OSS..I gotta agree w Wayne.. as a sidenote.. do you REALLY believe that speaking with the annointed ! in person would do ANY GOOD?? Could it hurt? not at all, but the prez would just give you one of his patented condescending looks and then plaster you with BS. at least 17 minutes worth for a yes or no answer

This is obviously about money.
If my fan base consisted of largely conservitive, God fearing, gun loving, State university and High School educated folks, I wouldn't want to be seen schmozin with an unpopular Ivy league educated, Chicago political styled, screamin liberal politician.

And I'll bet you have no rational basis for those feelings. him and thousands and thousands of others share those feelings.......Dont worry the koolaid will eventually wear off I AM THINKIN YOU MEANT MILLLLIONS
