I thought I was going ot just give the bike a quick wipe off to remove some bugs from yesterday when I saw it.   DANG!!!!  I thought I had fixed this one the easy way.  The oil seal for the shifter shaft was leaking.  (I caught it before it actually made a drop of oil fall on my family room floor) If it had made a puddle of oil on the floor I would have been really embarrased as everyone asks..."arent you afraid there will be oil stains on the floor and tracked everywhere".....SHEEESH  its a Valkyrie, but I digress.

The last time (over a year ago) it was leaking, I ordered the new seal and got all ready to put it in, when I noticed the old seal was sticking out a bit.  So I just cleaned it and pushed it back in, quit leaking and lasted over a year.

This time I decided it was time to pull it. However, I couldnt get a screw to start like Danny posted so I just picked up my mini 90° pic and poked it from the center towards the outside.  the pic was nice and sharp and went in like butter, and then I just popped it out.  I recommend this as better than the screw method (Sorry Danny)

Cleaned everything and pressed the new seal in and reassembled.  didnt take 20 minutes start to finish and

NOW Im ready for Cheaha!

 Grin Grin Grin
Doesn't that just ruin your day when you see a VALKYRIE leaking oil!!! uglystupid2 tickedoff
Anyways, when it does it's usually something fairly simple.  cooldude

I took an old looong screwdriver, ground the tip down to a nasty sharp point. Poked a hole in the leaky seal & used the leverage of the long screwdriver to pop it out. Mine was stuck a bit more firmly than yours I guess!

A Valkyrie leaking oil.  I have no idea what you be talking about!  My Valkyrie is not leaking any oil.

PS.  I felt obligated to go on  a second test ride and the diagnosis still stands NO LEAKY OIL  Evil

Happened to me at voai last year in South Dakota, had to put in some Harley oil cause nobody on a valk carried extra oil, including me!  The Kansas hog was with me and had some with him.  I may never live it down!  2funny Hoser

Must be about that time of the year?  I had to do this myself a few weeks ago.  I managed to use the screw method and it worked great.  Note to others - there may be a shortage of shift lever seals in the future, better order yours now!
