Nothing beats a 6-pack!

Oxford, Indiana

« on: September 05, 2011, 07:46:30 AM »

September 24, 2011, around noon, until whenever - the First Annual Phillips' Family Valkyrie and other Motorcycles Bar-B-Que.

The deck's done, the horseshoe pit is done, the music loud, and the grills a grillin'! I've got all the room in the world, and live in a small, motorcycle-friendly town. The neighbors are cool, and so is the town constable.

You all are invited, to Oxford, IN, for all the pork chops or ribs, depending on which I can get, burgers, brats and dogs, potato salad, cole slaw, chips, beans, fresh sweet corn, pop and tea, and all the trimmings you can handle. Anyone having "special" food requirements, let me know, so I can accommodate you. I do ask for a $5 donation (and a bargain at half the cost!), to help defray costs, but not required. The important thing is to come and enjoy the company of fellow riders. Participation is NOT limited to riders - ride, drive, or walk - we'll be glad to see you!

I will have the shop, tools, and lift table available, for any repairs or work that you might need. We also have plenty of room and facilities for anyone that wants to camp over-night. We only lack a shower.

I do ask, in order to be sure to have enough fixin's, that I get some kind of head count, by September 10th or so, the 17th at the latest. Please click on the email link below, or PM me through the forums. Let me know if you are sure to come, or even tentatively planning on coming. I know that it's sometimes rough to make plans, and that plans change, so I'm not holding anyone to anything. I just want to make sure I have too much, instead of too little.

Email for RSVP: Click the following, and it will open up in your email program, or email me through the forums, or Private Message me: Email me here

The address is: 205 E. Smith St., Oxford, Indiana

All roads lead to Oxford, Home of Dan Patch, conveniently located about 20 minutes from Lafayette, IN. Here's a link to the mapquest listing for our place in Oxford:

Oxford, IN

I am going to try to keep a running list here, of those that are coming, and the ones that are possibly coming. Let me know if your status changes. Also, please let me know as soon as you can, but NO LATER than September 17th, please.

Definitely coming

Walküre and Karen
Fudgie and Kit
BigDog99 and wife
Rainman and Daina
ChromeDome
Chris Naylor
Dave and Andrea Ritsema
Mad6Gun and Twila
Painter and Po
Doc Moose

Indianawizzard and wife

Possibly coming

RTaz and Devl
Jabba and Friends
rr.indy.98

bigfish_Oh (that's a BIG maybe!!)

Cool!

I didn't mention it, but the doors will be open MUCH earlier than that - just gave noonish, to give a time to shoot for, as far as lunch being served, but I'll keep cooking until I run out, or everyone has their fill. I don't want ANYone to think that if you ain't there at noon, you ain't eating! I suspect I'll be cooking until 6 or 7 that evening, if folks are still hungry. I'll have everything ready by 9:00 am, to make sure I'm ready by noon!

As for shutting down, I don't need to be at work until the next night, at 11:00. I won't be cooking breakfast, but do have some cold cereal.

Wish I could make it to the home of my new friend!  Two days each way is just too far though.

Have a great time!  All of you who can make it, go!  Roger will treat you right.

Have fun!

Thanks very much for the invite.
Sorry I can not make it.
Looks like everyone will have a great time.

Thanks for hosting the event, have a great time.

May the sun shine on your event, and the gods of motorcycle bless you.

It is a fine thing you do for your friends, those met and those not met.

Thanks, Pete and MP...maybe next year, you'll be on the way to, or on the way from someplace nearby, and able to spend some time!

Threw the first ringer, last night, LONG after my arm was sore! I haven't pitched shoes in 25 years, and it shows. Have a couple weeks to practice, though. One of my better "weekend projects".

Thanks for the invite Roger. You are a very generous person. I will always remember the offer of the use of your Fat Lady to attend this last InZane. cooldude

It's a thousand miles one way to your place. I have been known to travel a couple of hundred for a cup of coffee, but 2,000 miles seems excessive.

I will bring it up to my riding bud though, but it it most doubtful. Though it would make for a good 4 day trip destination.  Undecided Thanks again!

This seems like a good time/place to finally post and introduce myself...

I've had my 2003 Valkyrie and been a VRCC member for a few years now. I've been learning a lot about Valks by reading this forum for longer than that, but I haven't taken the time to post before now. I'm hoping to make more time to get out and meet some of you VRCC'ers now.

Roger, awhile back, you and I exchanged a couple emails about Valk stuff I was selling on craigslist. I am hoping to make it to your house on 9/24. Very generous of you to throw this party, and it sounds like it will be a great time. I am not 100 percent sure that I will be able to attend, though. So... I do solemnly swear, here in front of all, that I will not eat any of your food, since I can't give you a firm RSVP. I mean that...I don't like to be a moocher, take food from those who RSVP'd, whatever... But I do hope to attend and hang out for awhile, talk to some people, etc. Thank you for inviting us all!

Ryan - Baker Air Wings, right? How ya doin'?

[joke] So, first post, and all you can do is insult me, eh? Whassamatta? My food ain' good enuf for you? You don' like my cookin'?[/joke]

Kidding aside, here's how it is - The ONLY reason I mentioned a donation, was because I had NO idea how many might come, if I offered to host it. I had sold some stuff, and put the $$'s away for Valk parts, then, when I got everything I knew I'd want for the Valk, I had plenty left over to put towards dinner. Then I started thinking, what if I had 40 or 50 people decide to come? I knew I could handle that many people, but wanted to make sure I'd be able to have enough - not many of us Valk riders are "Junior Petite", if you know what I mean!

There's going to be plenty, for however many show up. Whatever doesn't get eaten over the weekend, will get eaten over the week. And unless it's for medical, religious, or other such reason, I'd be sorely disappointed if you didn't come hungry, and join us.

Hope you can make it! Looks like there's going to be quite a few here. [joke]Think we'll have enough to help you help yourself - hard to refuse, hog-tied, and hanging upside down...[/joke]

I'll put you in the "maybe"s.

Ouch! Hope you get better, soon! Hope you can make it, too, but the getting better - THAT'S important! Don't know if it's because I'm getting older, or the bugs are getting worser, but I don't shake it off like I used to.

We'll hold back a couple place settings, just in case.    cooldude

Wait, have I had breakfast, yet??

I wonder about things, like, if they call an orange an "orange", then why don't we call a banana a "yellow" or an apple a "red"? Blueberries, I understand. But will someone explain gooseberries to me?

Well that looks like just a great time coming up for all.

Sure wish I was going to be able to just ride past, smell the food, swing in, get the $5 out and enjoy meeting what is sure to be a great bunch of riders and others talking Valks and other assorted nonsense into the night..

Ah well, it's just too far from Downunder - have fun.

badda-bing, badda-bump!

A few people have asked about time. I figure that I will have everything ready to eat, except meat, around noon. I will cook the meat, as needed, so everyone has a hot meal, no matter WHAT time you get here, or want to eat - I know that I don't like to hop off the bike, and eat - I'd rather socialize a bit, first. I'll cook all night, if that's what it takes.

So, it doesn't matter at all WHAT time you get here (YoungPup, you listening?!?), there will be food! I'm off the next two days, so plenty of time to recuperate.

Less than two weeks, and counting...

Looks like around 22 people, committed so far, and another half-dozen or so, "maybe"s. I would think that most people who are interested in coming, have piped in, so I'm going to call this a "close count", and make plans accordingly. I'll consider this the last shout-out, and my last bump, unless someone has any questions that need answered, etc, or something new comes up.

Here's my phone numbers, just in case anyone needs them - I hope it's to say "hey, almost there, where's that last turn?", instead of "hey, we're having trouble...help!!". Either way, you'll have the number. I DO regret selling my flatbed trailer, as the box is still full of airplanes. I'll try to get it cleaned out, "just in case", but not sure if I'll make it in time.

Seven 6 five three 6 three, thirty four ten (cell)

Seven 6 five three 8 five, twenty fifty-eight (home)

Looking forward to meeting you all!

Again, last-minute - no problem! Folks are more than welcome! I'll be planning for 35-40, as it sits now, to be sure to have plenty.

See you there!

My brand new daughter in laws mother had a birthday party for her. They had a ton of burgers cooked and I saw were going to be left over. I said. " Wow , you could have some awesome chili for the rest of the week". She hollered to her husband and said , "Did you hear that Larry? Larry said he would make chili with the left overs, I was going to feed them to the dog".

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

OK, folks, for those of you coming - I'm in a bit of a quandary. I have a neighbor, who's a member of a great band, the Mason Kross. They do just about any kind of music, and have a great stage presence. I used to DJ/KJ so I have a pretty extensive sound and light setup. Well, they want my lights, and are willing to trade play for 3 or 4 hours, at the First Annual Phillips' Family Barbecue.

The thing is, I'm not sure where they'll play from. My lot is very uneven, and where it IS flat, there are trees. Makes for nice shade, but not a band. There IS a place, about 25 feet from the deck - loud! I can put them across the way, at the shop, but they'd almost have to be on the back-side, and we might not hear them very well. But that might be good. They are loud. I've never had a get-together like this, so I don't know what people like - at the least, I will be putting up my sound system, and playing serious background music. If the band is close, it will probably be JUST the band - with conversation during breaks, or before and after the music. Or, if people will be over at the shop and horseshoes, etc, before/after eating, then them being set up, on the lot, would provide nice background across the street, at the shop lot.

What do you all think? Do you want to come, to basically spend 3 hours listening to a band (they are very good, really!), or just background music, with more conversation, camaraderie, etc?

Since they owe me one, I can ALWAYS get them to play for me, at another function, so that doesn't come into play. Or, they can play for an hour or so - they are getting the lights, regardless, so the length of time, isn't important.

Comments, suggestions, idea, etc, are MORE than welcome!!

Thanks,

Roger
