We were in China in 04 with a tour group. After getting to know our guide some, we started asking questions about the country that was not on the itinnery (mispelled ?)  There were several unanswered and some fudged . The people of China are not allowed to have imported items. If it is not made in China then you do not need it. We saw Ford, Chevys,Buicks etc over there . They have assembly plants in china. Mercedes, BMW have to build plants there , but at that time , a 60% import tax was levied on the cars. Harley is made in china in order to sell them there. They buy (get) products from us , but it carries a chinese label or is remanufactured for them. I have not followed this any more , but at the time it was supposed to be true.

Sounds as if we could learn something from the Chinese.

If you use it here, it should be made here.

I like it.

Same difference, except China didn't make China...WalMart (and WalMart shoppers) did!

True, to sell products in China, you need to make them there.

yep, and most people are to stupid to see it, I try very hard to buy anything except china, cant say its made in usa, hardly anything is any more. Its our fault, we try to save a nickle, and has cost us in the end. one day we are going to see most people will be working in the service industry, mc donalds etc. not much left of our industry, america wake up, just my thoughts, I really hate going to walmart.

it's true we have lost the manufacturing base of most little things, except for paper clips. for some reason we still make the best paper clips  Evil

however we DO make tires, airplanes, make up, and a variety of other goods in the states, we have a manufacturing base bigger then china.

from the UN (don't trust them either  Undecided )

And you know the irony? There's another current thread, about buying wine at WalMart!

Reminds me of years ago, when Hollywood Candy Co. had a big bruhaha, about having huge multiples of the "allowed" mouse feces in their candy bars. Big article in the paper. My dad cut the article out, and taped it to the gedunk machine. Quite a few people came up to the machine, read the article, then proceeded to buy a Hollywood Candy product.

Seems we do SOOO much, against our better interests...
