Can someone direct me to a writeup on getting a little more outta my stockers. I know I saw a writeup at some point in my two years owning the beast, but now that I want to give it a shot I can't for the life of me find it-
Thanks-

One of the mods is called the Ragner cut. Search the tech archives for that or exhaust mods. There have been a ton of threads about exhaust mods

I took the chrome ends off the tailpipe and cut the piggies off with a saws all. I drilled a 3/8 hole in each of the piggies' baffles with a 12 inch long drill bit. Put the crhome ends back on and now have a throaty sound. Mine ended up being quite a bit louder by doing this and I think it sounds just right. I used to have a standard with 6 in 6 cobra pipes, it was pretty loud. By doing this to my IS, it is in the middle of the road as far as sound goes. It will only take you about 30 minutes from start to finish.

RJ, both would be really nice, but sound right now is my main issue-

Cut off 31/2" off the entire muffler and add stacks.

Wait Slick, I have a set with the Ragner cut, I'll trade you for your stockers. I have a set of 6 X 6 sitting waiting to go on the 98 Std. maybe you can come down and will swap out the pipes. Let me know. Or if you just want to hear the Ragner cut we can get together.

I think my idea is pretty good..........consider this................to retain the possibility of returning the mufflers to original operation try the following.
1. cut the piggies and leave about 2 inches of piggies on the muffler can. save the cut offs. 2. cap the piggies on the mufflers 3. drill 1/2 inch holes on the end of the mufflers next to each piggies for a total of six holes on each exhaust.
by doing the above you have in effect eliminated the silencers in the mufflers by capping them off. If you dont like the sound or want to return the muffler to original sound, you simply cap the drilled holes and uncap the piggies.
when the holes are drilled next to the piggies, be careful to put two holes in each of the segmented areas within the muffler. you insure this by probing the muffler after drilling each hole next to each piggie to insure proper placement. each muffler in divided into thirds by a welded plate which retains the exhaust into a 6 into 6 system.
this procedure, i believe, retains backpressure so that you do not have to rejet, but I cant guarantee it. the ragner cut claims the same, which is what i am going with. the ragner cut effectively puts the muffler out of service if you want to convert back to the original sound.
if anyone has any thoughts on this idea I would like to listen to your thoughts.

I'll probably end up with QueExpres' glass pack mod from the Shoptalk page, but I may start with just cutting the cans behind the front baffles and putting on truck stacks. If it's not loud enough (I hated the 2 Bros' pipes; fun in town but not on a 10 hour ride...) I can drill the front baffles easily.
This would leave me the rear baffles that I can bolt in, piggies and all, if I want to quiet it down for long trips (or the cops are around with their bike noise equipment). The 'Silencer' idea is the best part of the QueExpress mod, and it should work here too.
And if they pass and enforce OEM exhaust legislation, I'll still have the original covers and rear baffles to put back on. Unless they tear them apart, they'll never know... Fred.

"And if they pass and enforce OEM exhaust legislation" I understand where you're coming from and they sure are trying in some states to do exactly that. However with our old Valkyries I feel we will never be affected with any state legislatures changing laws in that regard. I'm sure we'd be grandfathered in. But , I myself still have the original pipes also. Go figure! ***
