Just bought a 2000 I/S and love everything about it but the speakers. Does anyone make a bettersounding speaker that''s compatible with the I/S? Cool

Are these Polk speakers 4"? And do they also replace the front speakers?

Fred, the answer is YES to both questions.

The db401 and the db501 have EXACTLY the same dimensions but the db501 is rated to have a 10hz lower frequency response range. This spec should give you a slightly better sound and be capable of giving a small amount better BASS response.

I did not know this data until I had already ordered mine so I have db501's in the fairing and db401's in the trunk mounted arm rests. Still looking at adding a slim line 8" powered subwoofer in a flat cabinet under the trunk where the CB would mount.

I don't really like the I/S speakers either. But as I recall the speakers have an odd impedance like 3 ohms, do the polk speakers match the original design spec's? Improved frequency response is good but solid state amplifiers usually have a minimum impedance that they can tolerate. And if the impedance is greater than the design calls for then there's a mismatch that can reduce efficiency.

I put in the DB501's in both front and rear this past spring. Major difference in sound going down the road. Before needed vol. set to 27-30, now 18-21. Great sound. Do search on this site for installation modification instructions. Easy to do. cooldude

Try www.autotoys.com for some small amplifiers that can be hidden either under the trunk or within the fairing itself.
They have both 2 and 4 channel models cheap.

Electrical connections also has a wiring harness for the rear speakers for around $15. It's pretty darn handy for the install.

coolsmiley Ok, I ordered the polk 501s. Bought them on Amazon for less than half of what they were on Polks website. Thanks for all the input, especially the installation instructions. I'll let you know how it goes.
