OK...the Cobras came in last week (my first set), and the Bridgestones are coming off. I KNOW this has been beat to death, BUT....
I wanted to hear from those of you who use Avons about tire pressure. The sidewall says 41 psi front and rear, but we are taking a 2700 mike trip in just a few weeks, and I'd prefer NOT to start a flat spot on them like the Bridgestone rear I have now (it's at 42 psi).
We'll be 2 up, lightly packed (suitcase on the rear) travelling a lot of interstate and state highways. Combined rider weight at about 330 lbs. (165 +/-each). 1997 Std...no mods.
Thoughts?

I keep mine about the same as Willow. At 6K miles thusfar I have plenty of tread left and only a minor flat spot in the middle.

I just switched to the Cobras this year.

My last tires were Metzlers, they were fantasic in the corners but lasted less than 8K. Both front and rear started to look pretty sad at 7.5K miles.

The Avon Cobras still look very good at approx 5K miles. I agree with the suggestions on tire pressures,...check them often though.

Here is pic of front Cobra with 12,000 mi. one rider.  Lots of tread left and minimal flat spot.  40 - 41 front 42 - 43 rear, check regularly.  Very happy with them.  Back has 10k and looks good also.

Don't notice the filth on the "chicken stripe"  went through a BIT of mud just before pic taken.   Embarrassed

42 Front & 44 Rear is what I have been running for several years. Met up with the Avon factory Rep in Dallas at the manufactures show a few years ago and I was complaining about the handle on the Avon Venons and the Rep said air them up I was running too low of air pressure. So I air them up to what he suggested and have been running 42 front and 44 rear ever since.

The avons will serve you well.  I run 35 to 38 psi on my dunny bias ply tires, I ride solo and am 160 lbs, did it for softer ride.  Here is my last set after replacement at 20,000 miles, just getting to the wear bars.  Hoser
