$275 + 10% off? You stole that thing. It's like the reverse of that coupon thread. You should be in jail for that.  Wink

That's a tempting trade.......We have not had 5 inches total in 9 months.... and most of that was in January.....

This was at a big antique auction barn... lots of vendors.... but we just went in... found the sign .... and got out.....  FB was wanting to look around.... thank goodness I got her out of there..... LOTS of cool stuff

Hey Guy's - I've got one of these that my son-in-law gave me but all it will do is flicker when I plug it in.  Any ideas?  Electrical or gas issue?  Where would one get it repaired and would it be worth the cost?  TIA!!

Any shop that makes neon signs should be able to check it and do the repairs.

I believe neon lights use ballasts like fluorescent lights and that's a symptom of a failing ballast but it could also be a failing electrode. I doubt it's the gas itself.

If you do have it looked at try to find someone local. I know a neon guy but you want to avoid shipping neon at all costs because it's so fragile.

If one half lights up and the other half flickers (like mine did) just replace the ballast that is bad.

The transformers are not expensive and you can install it yourself.

Too bright?

I've got a bud with a mancave and he's got a few nice old neon beer signs. Problem is the cave is kinda small and with them all lit up it was too way too bright. He took sheets of lightly smoked lexan and put them in front and it was perfect. Muted the brightness without affecting the colors.

The LED version is pretty sweet too though. Is anyone making those? Looks like it'd be pretty easy to do.

Fluorescent lights hurt my eyes.  Neon lights are worse.

My LED sign is one of only three that were made.  Beyond that, I do not know.

Mine did that, it had a hole in the 'F' and a power supply going bad.   They also said it had too small of a power supply.

'F' is fixed, new bigger power supply and it has been burning 24/7 ever since.   Total bill was $237 + change.

ok then, where are the OTHER TWO....cause i want one of dem' LED ones!!!!!!!!!!!  cooldude   cooldude Cheesy

The other two are with the guy who made them and a close friend of his.  At Inzane, I begged him to sell one to me, but he didn't sound like he'd make any more.  So I ended up owing money to Early Bird since I didn't have enough cash to win the bid, and Daniel Meyer said he'd help me out if I needed a bit more.   Fortunately the other guy bidding realized he'd met his match and bowed out.  Pheww!

Mark- I was able to buy one just a few months ago from our local Honda Dealer. I had been bugging him for years to sell it to me. I went in one day to get a blade for my honda lawn mower and offered again, this time he gave in.  It is in my den right now waiting to go into my man cave garage I hope to build in the spring.

You can buy a dimmer switch made for neons at a specialty lighting store. I use to use them all the time when I worked for Budweiser.
