Really not as fun as it sounds...Loaded a 320 Cat John Henry track drill this morning in Static,Kentucky headed for Fontana Dam just outside of Deal's Gap. We came in the back way through Robbinsville, North Carolina and hit The Hellbender 28.Picture below is The Pit Stop at Fontana Village.

I had one of the best ahead of me in a polit car stopping and flagging traffic with  communication between us. It's possible thats the safest trip I've ever took across The Dragon. As stated it was'nt as fun as it sounds with a ( 3 ) axle low-boy and a total of ( 22 ) wheels rollin'. Without the escort and my rig taking the full road in the curves those drivers that try it without escort are just asking to get someone hurt or killed.  Picture taken at the state line at the top of the hill above Deal's Gap.

If that Bull Dog on the hood ever turns around and grins at you , then you know it's time to stop and take a nap.

Cool Dragon Run.

Yes ....I load and unload everything that I haul . The Grove and Mantis crane's I haul test my nerve the most as they just barely fit on the trailer with only inches on the trailer and the rest hanging off in the wind  Shocked

The fence was put up when they had the massive rock slide that shut that part of US 129 down a couple years ago....It could have been me I've been across The Dragon many times over the years in a tractor-trailer and always with a pilot car. Noway I'd do it without one 99% of the curves I'll have the truck in the ditch on one side of the road and the trailer in the ditch on the other side. We have powerlines all over them mountains and hills along with Fontana Dam.

Lake yes, on a calm day. ( SLOW)  River....you couldn't pay me enough to try! uglystupid2 Didn't do very well when the wind came up and the water got choppy. Kind of a religious experience. More designed for  swampy work. especially when digging. The tracks need to touch bottom when you're running the bucket
