O.K. here is the story about 1 1/2 years ago I got a 2004 vtx 1300 R and really enjoyed riding it,however I needed more power so the vtx 1800 seemed like the obvious choice so I did alot of research and purchased a really nice 2003 vtx 1800 R.I enjoy this bike it has lots of power cruises very well all of that but I cannot forget all of the wonderfull things that valkyrie owners had to say about their bikes things like best bike ever, awesome, amazing.so now I am obsessed with this machine I have never even rode one yet I convinced myself that I must get one.I have some questions,
is the valk superior to the 1800?
will parts be available for many years to come?
is the darkside tire a good idea?
I really want the interstate what model valk is the best?
is the valk the best cruiser ever?
can i still get a blower for the valk and would it still be super reliable?
what should i avoid
thanks in advance.

You will find many answers here...Most are biased towards the Valk. And YES it is the BEST (I am biased too)  The techboard is a great place to start. You will have to keep open mind and sort thru' all the B.S. but your decisions will be your own,and you will have all the help you need if you change your mind. Just avoid anything that is not a Valkyrie and you will be pleased!  coolsmiley

Well, for what it's worth I am still riding my 12 year old Interstate daily (plus a few Ironbutts) and I think it had a switch for something or other replaced by my service guy a few years ago (they have serviced it from new after I bought it).
Nothing else spent apart from the regular tyres, brakes, oils etc. So, you may not need so many parts into the future should you make that wise choice.

If you're worried about parts, buy 2, the bikes are cheaper than the sum of their parts.
Owner of my company has a 1997, has had a blower for the past 7 years on his, well over 150000 miles on it now. Only problem has been
left rear wheel bearing failed and spun in wheel, needed a sleeve.

My son has the 1800VTX.  I've ridden it several times. Doesn't do it for me.  It can keep up OK, and the feet forward may be more comfortable than the Valkyrie's positioning, but like Fudgie said, the "cool' factor just ain't there !  If I was going to get rid of my Valk, I don't think the VTX would be on my short list of replacements.  And I'm real certain that none of the new Honda cruisers would be.  I'm sure my opinion is not shared by all who have read it either  crazy2

Jarid,

You are new to this board.  The questions you asked have been discussed many, many times.  I suggest you use the search feature and go through the previous discussions on the questions you have asked.  Using the search keeps a lot of material and discussions from being repeated.

You might also want to read this:

Not quite sure what you are saying here.  The 1800 VTX weighs as much as a Valk.  So how would that be helping you knees in holding her up?

Plus from test riding one I found that the forward position of the legs on the VTX put more strain on my tail bone.
