"Aurora Borealis" is a physical phenomenon that occurs when solar storms winds electrically charged particles toward Earth. The particles are electrons and protons that form the light when they collide with gases in Earth's atmosphere.
Northern Lights is located at a height of between 90 and over 180 km above the ground.

The film is composed of a bunch of still images, taken between January and April this year.
The photographer has used a Canon 5D camera with wide angle lens to capture the natural phenomenon.

He is very pleased that NASA has noticed the video.
 - It's really fun! Absolutely amazing. For us it is quite common to see it, but I understand that people who live elsewhere are excited about it, he says.

I was in Tromso last weekend on the John Fogerty concert. He delivers "Rockin 'All Over The World" and "Proud Mary" with the Northern Light flickering in the sky.

I saw them when I was stationed in Alaska.  Probably one of the most awe inspiring sights I've ever seen.

Got a chance to see this many times riding around on a Navy ship in the Bering Sea many years ago.  Interesting.

Was watching a spectacular display in Anchorage one cold winter night when a young teenage girl came running up the street crying and whimpering in the full panic mode.  She thought it was the end of the world.  We had to catch her before we could calm her down and reassure her that it was a natural event.  When in fullbloom, it is an awesome sight.

I sailed into Tromso back in 1981 with the NATO Fleet. At 5'9" I felt small compared to the locals. Beer was very expensive.  Shocked

An excerpt form a friends euogy.

One late Friday evening I was snuggled down in front of a log fire with one or two beers under my belt when there was a frantic knocking at the window.  I knew it could only be one person and I was met outside by an incredibly excited Boyo telling me to get into the Van because he had just seen one of the wonders of the world. I got in and we set off like a rocket and by the time we had stopped at the top of Seaton Road I had managed to learn that Boyo had witnessed the Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights. We stood there together in the darkness staring at the star lit sky with Boyo saying, ‘Keep looking, honest Dick I’ve seen them,’ when suddenly far off over the horizon there it was!    Wow it was incredible, these curtains of light dancing high into the night sky. We were both amazed and enraptured by the event and there was a great shaking of hands and talk of yet another experience we had had together.
The next morning I told Anna about the amazing event over a cup of tea and after she had digested the whole story she said, ‘Isn’t Stamford fair on this week?’
