My wife and I were out checking out another MSF training range and as we were coming home we saw a VFW that had 9-11 Memorial Ride. We had nothing better to do so we said "why not?".

As we entered the parking lot we saw that for a $20.00 donation you got a Tee-shirt, pulled pork sandwiches, and all the beer you could drink at the conclusion of the ride. We weren't interested in keg beer or the pork sandwiches but I can never have too many Tee-shirts.

We walked up to register, when a guy walks up and says to us "NO JAP BIKES ALLOWED". I ws flabergasted and asked "just what do you allow on a memorial ride?". His response was that it was a Harley only ride. I asked why? And his response was if a country is or was an enemy of the USA, then they are not allowed to join in on the ride.

Well my wife and I just got on our bikes to leave when a guy on a Victory 92SC pulled in and that same guy runs up to him and yells "NO JAP BIKES". I only wish I  could have seen the look on the Victory riders face.

Later this afternoon we were at a local leather shop (had my Valkyrie patches sewn on my jacket and vest) when we saw the police escort of the Memorial Riders. Looking at the way they were riding, I'd have to say that most of them didn't need "all the beer you can drink".

The September 11th 2001 attack on all of America and what it stands for. An attack on Democracy and personal freedoms. An attack on our right to choose our own Government, be it good or bad. When the WTC was destroyed and the Pentagon attacked it had nothing to do with what brand of bike you rode; it was an attack on our right to choose to at all.

Did you tell him our bikes were made in America??? Grin Ask him how many of his friendly HD riders drive Toyotas or Hondas or Subarus for cages.  I'll bet a few even have BMW or Mercedes for cars... What a damn hypocrite... I wouldn't need to go on a ride with any of them... I love my country and it seems that they love their attitude. Angry Shocked

Momz-The Amvets post in West Plains Mo had their 9/11 ride today. I rode my Valkyrie and there was other assorted (japanese) bikes in cluding a sprinkling of H/Ds. We all enjoyed/shared the same wind today and the same prayers and remeberances. Makes me wonder what the bone heads were thinking. uglystupid2 Course the people you dealt with were not thinking. That is/was evident by how you two were treated. I hope at the very least you get an apology from that V F W post. Never met ya'll but i'd be proud to share wind with ya'll ANYTIME. coolsmiley RIDE SAFE.

Not to mention that they're missing out on your 20 bucks.

Some years ago I watched a documentary style program about some Pacific theater vets getting together with some Japanese Imperial forces vets. Some were at places like Pearl Harbor, Iwo Jima, Wake Island and Kwajalein and fought on either side. It was very tense at first, but eventually they began to talk and understand each other. Yopu could see the relief in the eyes of the old men as they were able to both atone for their mistakes and let go of the anger they'd been holding in all those years.

If those guys can get past it then someone who wasn't even there should be able to as well.

I usually don't/won't do charity rides. I'd rather ride with riders I know and trust to be sober.

However today we did not have much of an agenda except that my wife wanted to check out another MSF training range. (My wife is also a DAR member that can trace her families origins back to the American Revolution.)

Other than that our day was free, so when we saw the 9-11 Memorial Ride, so thought we could at least check it out.

My wife and I are both ABATE of MI members and it is ABAIE's policy to welcome all riders of any make of M/C. However when I first joined ABATE in the 80s, there was quite a bit of anomosity against non-HD riders. I took a lot of $hit for riding a 750 Honda, and then a GoldWing. But I rode, in the rain, cold, the first to ride to meetings as soon as there was no snow, and rode well into the biteing November cold.

I always managed to get the "High Mileage" award in our old region. I became our regions Chief Road Captain and also put together a precision drill team so that we could entertain people on the sidewalks during the Dearborn Memorial Day parades.

I believe that "you can't fix stupid", or maybe I should feel sorry for someones ignorance.

Momz,
If someone told me that "if a country had ever been an enemy of this country their products wouldn't be allowed" I would point out that all of the HD plants are on soil that MY country fought against in the Civil War. Perhaps that is perk of living in the South. We get all of the best smart-ass answers.

Next year, I suggest that you organize your own all inclusive event and raise more money for the same charity.  The best revenge really is sweet like that.

I rarely agree with you Anvil, but this is a nice point.

Besides, riding with sober riders is better than paying twenty bucks to dodge riders for fifty miles. Smiley

I was on the first ground zero benefit ride for families of those lost, along with tens of thousand bikes of all makes in what I recall was late Oct of 2001  and was on my  Vulcan 750.

Its where I got the sticker that is on the windshield of my present Interstate. For some reason I never put it on the first interstate when I bought it in 2002

Anyway, it was a solemn ride from Carmel NY to the battery and I shall never forget the smell and cold chill or the tears as we got near the still smoldering ruin

I had goosebumps and clammy hands and trouble breathing.  There were no radios playing from any bike as we got close.

To think some piece of crap would have the audacity to deny any person on 2 wheels the opportunity to pay respects makes my blood boil. You took the high road leaving with your wife. I am not sure what my response would have been. For certain I would contact the national VFW or the local news.

You are maturing in your old age George.

Good for you. Wink  Maybe there will be a cabinet post in my administration for you,

Yes, it does.  If you've forgotten about Pearl harbor Day on 12-7-1941 then you probably will forget about 9-11-2001.  The japanese killed more Americans on 12-7-1941 than the arabs killed on 9-11-2001.  Yet, people still fund this former enemy and contribute to their economy.

What those idiots have forgotten is that grief and rememberance is a human experiance. It has nothing to do with equipment. What happened to MOMZ is predjudice and hatred. The national headquarters of the VFW needs to be made aware of this incident.

When you buy a honda/toyota/volkswagen or ANYTHING your are supporting all the middlemen that got it to your location. All the people that stocked the shelves, did the inventory, ran the registers, the sales department, the finance team, general managers, the janitor, the company that does their computer networking, the kid at pizza hut that delivered pizza to the night crew during quarterly inventory............................... YOU BOUGHT IT IN THE USA ! Many Jobs depend on that because foreign goods have MADE MORE JOBS AVAILABLE HERE ! !!  Unless we cut population we NEED those job opportunities. You WILL buy foreign,no mater how hard you try so maybe we should start basing it on who makes the better product as an incentive to all manufactures to step up their game and do better !  Then we will see if America still has " the right stuff ".   tickedoff tickedoff tickedoff tickedoff

I think it is unfortunate that the "made in USA" label is such great marketing that it enables companies to try half as hard for twice the profits. And we wonder why the rest of the world calls us LAZY and SPOILED!   tickedoff

The comment about not fitting in was really funny! I simply cannot believe that attitude!    Who in the h### cares!

I don't buy into the Harley 'mystique' never have, never will.  It's just a motorcycle.

It might be American origin but it's not 100% American made.

Being an American veteran, I 'll buy what I want with my money, After all, that is my right.

The Harley attitude (not all HD riders have it) is bulls***.

If that guy was a member of the VFW, he should be thrown out so fast that he'll leave skid marks from his butt hitting the ground!

Now do you want to know how I REALLY feel? Grin

This wasn't about Harley or mystique, it's about a militarist attitude that comes from seventy years of constant warfare.  This guy isn't a rarity, either.  Guys like him are a bigger threat to the American way than a bunch of ragheads holed up in Afghanistan.
